Apprentice Field Mechanic – Drilling | Leduc, AB
Savanna Drilling is looking for an Apprentice Field Mechanic to join our Maintenance team in Leduc, Alberta.
The Apprentice Field Mechanic supports the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of drilling rigs, heavy vehicles and industrial equipment. This position works both in the shop and in the field alongside experienced maintenance personnel while continuing to develop their skills through the Heavy Equipment Technician apprenticeship.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Troubleshoot, maintain and repair mechanical and hydraulic systems on drilling rigs, heavy vehicles and industrial equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance, routine servicing and equipment inspections.
- Assist with troubleshooting electrical systems and components.
- Remove, repair, rebuild and replace mechanical components as required.
- Assist with larger repairs, equipment overhauls and maintenance projects.
- Support the startup and commissioning of new or refurbished drilling rigs and equipment.
- Travel to drilling rig locations to assist with equipment breakdowns, troubleshooting and repairs.
- Maintain the assigned service truck, tools and commonly used spare parts.
- Identify required replacement parts and materials.
- Complete required maintenance, inspection and repair documentation.
- Perform all work in accordance with Savanna’s HSE policies, procedures and safe work practices.
- Participate in the on-call schedule as required.
What We’re Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Registered 1st to 4th Year Heavy Equipment Technician Apprentice, or currently completing related technical training.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and an interest in developing knowledge of drilling equipment and systems.
- Mechanical and hydraulic troubleshooting experience is an asset.
- Basic knowledge of electrical systems and components is an asset.
- Knowledge of Cummins, Detroit Diesel and CAT engines is an asset.
- Previous experience with drilling rig maintenance, heavy vehicles or industrial equipment is an asset.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence.
- Ability to travel to field locations and work outside regular hours when operationally required.
