Scholars of Ajax/Pickering is seeking a passionate, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic Part-Time High School Science Tutor to join our team.
As a tutor at Scholars, you’ll have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in students’ academic growth and confidence. The successful candidate will receive training in Scholars’ proven teaching methodology and work with students in a supportive, engaging learning environment.
We are looking for someone who is confident teaching high school science up to the Grade 11/12 level, including:
- Physics
- Chemistry
- Biology
- Math is an asset
Responsibilities
- Provide individualized instruction to high school students in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology
- Explain challenging scientific concepts clearly and adapt explanations to different learning styles
- Support students with current school coursework, homework, assignments, test preparation, and exam review
- Identify areas where students require additional support and adjust instruction accordingly
- Teach effective problem-solving, study, and learning strategies
- Foster a positive and encouraging environment that helps students build confidence and independence
- Maintain accurate session notes and records of student progress, concepts covered, and areas requiring additional focus
- Communicate student progress and concerns with centre management as needed
- Follow Scholars’ teaching methodology, expectations, and centre procedures
What We’re Looking For
- Teaching or tutoring experience is required
- Strong knowledge of high school Physics, Chemistry, and Biology
- Ability to confidently teach science concepts up to the Grade 11/12 level
- Strong English oral and written communication skills
- Ability to explain complex concepts in a clear, patient, and approachable way
- Passion for helping students improve academically and build confidence
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced learning environment
- Reliable, professional, and able to work well as part of a team
- Must be available at least 3 days per week
- Applicants must have completed high school and cannot currently be high school students
- Ability to teach high school math is an asset
Education
- Post-secondary education in Science, Engineering, Health Sciences, Education, or a related field is preferred
- A Bachelor’s degree or current enrolment in a relevant post-secondary program is an asset
Hours of Operation
Monday–Thursday: 3:00 PM–8:00 PM
Saturday: 9:00 AM–2:00 PM
Availability for at least 3 days per week during our operating hours is required.
