Position Summary
The Production Control & Logistics Coordinator is responsible for supporting production planning, inventory control, and material flow within a fast-paced, advanced metal manufacturing environment.
This role ensures the accurate creation and reconciliation of work orders, maintains inventory integrity, and coordinates the flow of materials from raw material receipt through to finished goods shipment to support on-time delivery and overall operational efficiency.
This is a hands-on position that combines administrative logistics responsibilities with active shop-floor coordination. The coordinator will monitor EDI customer forecasts and releases, support production scheduling activities, and verify inventory levels to ensure adequate supply across the value chain.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, systems-driven, and comfortable working cross-functionally within a manufacturing environment to resolve production and material flow challenges in real time.
Key Responsibilities
Production Scheduling & Work Order Management
- Support production scheduling by creating and releasing work orders and production labels.
- Reconcile completed work orders against production runs to ensure accuracy in quantities, scrap, and material usage.
- Track and report production progress and output rates.
- Work under the guidance of the PC&L Manager to expedite workflow and material movement and prevent delays and bottlenecks.
Inventory Control & Material Tracking
- Verify and maintain accurate inventory levels of raw materials, work-in-progress (WIP), and finished goods (FG).
- Conduct inventory reconciliation and investigate inventory discrepancies.
- Monitor material utilization and scrap rates.
- Maintain accurate system transactions within ERP/MRP systems.
- Support cycle counts and physical inventory processes.
Logistics Coordination
- Support the organized movement of materials between production areas and shipping.
- Ensure timely delivery of materials to production lines.
- Oversee receiving and shipping activities, including preparation of shipping documentation and verification of incoming materials when required.
- Track outbound shipments and ensure on-time customer delivery.
- Coordinate with internal material-handling staff as required.
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare and maintain reports related to customer demand, production progress, inventory control, and material usage.
- Update and manage production data in ERP/MRP and other systems.
- Maintain accurate documentation for audits and traceability requirements.
- Participate in the development and improvement of departmental SOPs.
Cross-Functional Communication & Problem Solving
- Coordinate with Purchasing, Production, and Quality teams to resolve scheduling and material-related issues.
- Support problem-solving efforts related to workflow interruptions, equipment downtime, or material constraints.
- Work directly with the Quality team on process-specific internal audits as required.
- Communicate production requirements and customer release information effectively to the shop floor.
Experience, Qualifications & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Production Control, Logistics, Inventory Management, or a related role within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in metal or automotive manufacturing is preferred.
- Experience supporting production scheduling and work order processing.
- Strong understanding of inventory control principles.
- Experience using ERP/MRP systems, such as JobBOSS, SAP, Dynamics, or similar platforms.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and production reporting tools.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, shop-floor manufacturing environment.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles is an asset.
- Understanding of BOMs, routings, and production capacity planning.
- Ability to work collaboratively with Production, Purchasing, Quality, Shipping, and other internal departments.
Work Environment
- This is an on-site, hands-on manufacturing position requiring regular interaction with production and material-handling teams. The successful candidate must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and responding to production, inventory, and material-flow issues as they arise.
