We currently have a very exciting opportunity available with our client for a
Global Director of Human Resources in
Ottawa, Ontario .
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and enforce standardized global HR policies, procedures, SOPs, and operational workflows across international business units.
- Establish scalable HR processes that promote consistency, accountability, and operational efficiency across multiple jurisdictions.
- Standardize global talent management practices, including executive onboarding, international mobility, performance management, and workforce planning.
- Implement and oversee global HRIS and payroll architecture to maintain data integrity, automate workflows, and support centralized HR operations.
- Ensure HR systems and processes comply with applicable cross-border data privacy requirements, including GDPR and PIPEDA.
- Conduct regular global HR operational audits to identify process gaps, eliminate bottlenecks, and maintain consistent administrative standards.
- Serve as the internal subject-matter authority on Ontario employment legislation, including the Employment Standards Act, Working for Workers Acts, Ontario Human Rights Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.
- Partner with local legal counsel and regional stakeholders to manage employment-law compliance across multiple countries and jurisdictions.
- Oversee compliance with local employment standards, severance requirements, statutory benefits, termination protocols, and other applicable employment regulations.
- Lead complex international employee relations matters, workplace investigations, and cross-border workforce restructuring initiatives.
- Establish governance frameworks for international contractor conversions, Employer of Record (EOR) arrangements, and global mobility programs.
- Develop and manage competitive global compensation and total rewards strategies aligned with local market conditions and cost-of-living considerations.
- Oversee administration and regulatory compliance of global equity incentive and share option programs across applicable tax jurisdictions.
- Direct the administration of global health and dental benefit programs in partnership with regional brokers and providers.
- Evaluate benefits programs for appropriate coverage, cost efficiency, and regional compliance.
- Establish, enforce, and annually review workplace health and safety standards, HR policies, and operational procedures.
- Advise executive leadership on global workforce strategy, organizational governance, employee risk, and human capital matters.
- Promote consistent HR governance while accounting for cultural, regulatory, and operational differences across international markets.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources , International Business, Law, or a related field.
- MBA or Master's degree is preferred.
- CHRP or CHRL certification required.
- GPHR certification strongly preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive HR leadership experience.
- At least 4 years of experience leading HR operations across multiple countries or jurisdictions.
- Strong knowledge of Ontario employment legislation and HR compliance requirements.
- Demonstrated experience navigating international employment laws and cross-border workforce requirements.
- Knowledge of cross-border tax considerations as they relate to employment, compensation, equity, and international mobility.
- Hands-on experience administering stock option plans, equity incentive programs, or comparable executive compensation programs.
- Experience managing comprehensive group benefits programs across multiple jurisdictions.
- Strong understanding of HRIS, payroll systems, HR data governance, and cross-border data privacy.
- Experience with GDPR, PIPEDA, or comparable data privacy frameworks is strongly preferred.
- Experience working with Employer of Record (EOR) providers and international contractor arrangements.
- Demonstrated experience managing employee relations, workplace investigations, restructuring, and complex HR matters.
- Strong understanding of global compensation, total rewards, benefits, and international mobility.
- Excellent judgment, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Decisive, process-driven leadership style with the ability to establish and enforce standards across geographically dispersed and culturally diverse teams.
- Ability to balance global standardization with local legal and operational requirements.
- Willingness and ability to work onsite in Ottawa, Ontario.
Pay Range
- Salary range for this position will be $90,000 - $ 100,000 CAD . Compensation will vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This rate is subject to change.
