ENTERPRISE, INTERMEDIATE ASSOCIATE

Position Summary
The Enterprise Intermediate Associate completes compilation engagements and assigned sections of larger or more complex client files with increased independence and limited supervision. This role is expected to demonstrate sound foundational technical knowledge, identify and escalate issues, prepare well-organized files, communicate professionally with reviewers and clients, and manage workload, WIP and deadlines proactively.
Key Responsibilities
Technical and File Ownership
• Complete basic compilation engagements and assigned sections of more complex files with limited assistance, applying firm standards and reviewer expectations.
• Prepare bookkeeping, input client-prepared trial balances and complete file work that is accurate, organized and tied to the trial balance.
• Prepare draft tax return GIFI schedules and relevant supporting schedules, identifying issues or omissions and resolving basic diagnostics where appropriate.
• Draft and update top-file documents, including engagement letters, management acknowledgement letters, lawyer letters and related Jazzit documents.
• Complete CSRS 4200 checklists accurately and on time, including client acceptance and knowledge-of-the-entity updates before file work begins.
• Organize document manager sections, working papers and referencing in accordance with firm standards.
• Apply prior-year examples appropriately while identifying current-year changes, unusual items or areas where prior-year procedures may no longer apply.
• Prepare draft financial statements and notes, including balancing statements using appropriate rounding functions and ensuring prior-year figures agree to issued statements.
• Understand the purpose of assigned working papers and procedures, complete them fully and provide clear explanations for variances or unusual items.
• Identify basic accounting, tax or file issues and escalate them to the reviewer with proposed next steps where possible.
• Clear review notes promptly and ensure assigned responsibilities are completed without unresolved issues within expected timelines.
• Demonstrate ongoing growth in file efficiency, technical knowledge, professional judgement and ability to work with greater independence.
Communication, Teamwork and Dependability
• Take initiative in following up, escalating matters and establishing appropriate communication frequency to move files forward.
• Communicate clearly and professionally with reviewers, clients and team members using appropriate tone, grammar and communication channels.
• Draft clear, concise and professionally worded client or reviewer questions, with sufficient context and proposed next steps where appropriate.
• Prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities effectively, including clearing review notes, balancing files with competing deadlines and meeting expected timelines.
• Proactively communicate workload, capacity, file conflicts, delays, planned vacation and time away to reviewers and managers.
• Monitor own WIP, schedule and budget-to-actual variances, and communicate concerns early to the reviewer or manager.
• Enter time daily with meaningful descriptions, including time spent on unplanned issues or additional client requests.
• Support team members when capacity allows and contributes to a collaborative, client-focused team environment.
• Maintain a positive, solutions-oriented attitude and demonstrate commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
Qualifications, Skills and Attributes
• Post-secondary education in accounting, business or a related field.
• Enrollment in, or progress toward, the CPA designation is considered an asset.
• Relevant public accounting, bookkeeping, compilation, tax or client file experience.
• Working knowledge of accounting principles, compilation engagement standards, Canadian tax compliance and financial statement preparation.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; experience with CaseWare, Jazzit, TaxPrep and related accounting software is considered an asset.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, time management and ability to manage multiple files and deadlines.
• Professional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to ask effective questions and escalate issues appropriately.

Working Relationships
The Enterprise Intermediate Associate works closely with Enterprise team members, reviewers, managers, senior managers and partners. The role is expected to communicate directly with clients on routine matters, follow up on outstanding information and escalate issues to the appropriate reviewer or manager in a timely and professional manner.
Working Conditions
• Full-time role based in Toronto, Ontario, with work performed in accordance with firm policies and client service requirements.
• Work may involve periods of increased volume and deadline-driven activity, particularly during peak client service periods.
• Regular use of computers, accounting software, document management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
• Overtime may be required to meet client, filing and internal deadlines.
• The role requires the ability to manage multiple files, priorities and communications while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.
