The Opportunity:
KV Dermatology is seeking a dependable, organized, and compassionate Licensed Practical Nurse to join our busy specialist clinic. This is a hands-on role for an LPN who enjoys combining direct patient care, procedural support, patient education, and careful clinical follow-up. The successful candidate will work closely with dermatologists, nursing colleagues, administrative staff, pharmacies, laboratories, and patients to keep care safe, timely, and consistent.
A Day in the Life (What you will do here):
- Room patients, confirm the reason for the visit, collect relevant clinical information, and document accurately in the electronic medical record.
- Prepare examination and procedure rooms; set up instruments and supplies for biopsies and other dermatologic procedures; clean, disinfect, restock, and reset rooms between patients.
- Provide patient education and review dermatologist-directed care plans for topical and oral medications, treatment techniques, monitoring requirements, and follow-up.
- Answer and triage patient telephone calls and emails, address questions within scope, and promptly escalate clinical concerns to the dermatologist.
- Support biopsies and procedures by preparing supplies, drawing up medications and local anesthetic, assisting the dermatologist, labeling specimens, and completing related documentation.
- Clean, package, sterilize, store, and track reusable equipment according to infection prevention and control standards and manufacturer instructions.
- Coordinate laboratory work and other medical testing; initiate requisitions when authorized; monitor for results; confirm appointments; and ensure reports are received and reviewed.
- Reconcile pathology requests and specimen logs to ensure all biopsy results are returned, reviewed by the dermatologist, communicated to patients, and followed through to completion.
- Assist with special authorization forms and communicate with retail and compounding pharmacies to resolve prescription, access, or formulation issues.
- Perform delegated treatments and procedures within legislated LPN scope, demonstrated competence, physician orders, and clinic policy. These may include cryotherapy, cautery, local anesthesia with lidocaine, intralesional triamcinolone injections, suture removal, botulinum toxin administration for hyperhidrosis, photodynamic therapy, DPCP treatment, patch testing, selected biologic injections, and phototherapy.
- Monitor and respond to urgent requests delegated to nursing, identifying red flags and escalating appropriately.
- Maintain exam-room teaching materials and assist with ordering and monitoring clinical and office supplies.
- Additional duties as assigned by the manager.
What you need to ensure you are set up for success:
- Current registration in good standing, or eligibility for registration, with the Association of New Brunswick Licensed Practical Nurses.
- Current CPR certification; Basic Life Support certification is preferred. Proof of Liability Insurance also required.
- Strong clinical judgment, organization, attention to detail, and ability to manage competing priorities in a high-volume setting.
- Clear, respectful communication and a patient-centred approach, including comfort educating patients with varied health literacy and emotional needs.
- Comfort using an electronic medical record and standard office technology.
- Commitment to confidentiality, professional boundaries, infection prevention and control, and reliable follow-through.
- Dermatology, ambulatory care, procedural, wound-care, phototherapy, biologic, or prior-authorization experience is an asset; appropriate training will be provided for clinic-specific duties.
- English fluency is required; French language skills are an asset.
What makes you a great fit for this team:
- Your commitment to providing a high level of service to your internal and external clients.
- You are highly adaptable with a track record of success during times of growth and organizational change.
- You have a proven track record of developing trust and influence at multiple levels.
- You demonstrate an impactful and candid communication style.
