Join SDMM Ltd. – Reality Capture Drafting Technician
Servant Dunbrack McKenzie & MacDonald Ltd. (SDMM) is seeking a skilled Reality Capture Drafting Technician to support our growing Reality Capture department.
About the work
We use LiDAR technologies and high-resolution 3D laser scanning to document existing conditions and provide architects, engineers, and constructors with reliable information for planning, design, and construction. Our team transforms point cloud data into detailed as-found drawings and 3D models for a wide variety of uses, including building renovations, heritage preservation, and construction certification.
The primary focus of this position is creating digital documents, like 2D drawings and 3D models from lidar data (point clouds). There is also an opportunity to become involved in field data collection and post-processing.
What you’ll do
- Produce as-found floor plans, sections, reflected ceiling plans, roof plans, and exterior elevations from detailed point cloud data.
- Develop 3D models that represent existing building conditions.
- Interpret scan data to identify building geometry, including architectural, structural, and mechanical features.
- Check drawings and models against source data and project requirements, identifying gaps or ambiguities that require clarification.
- Assist with field data collection using lidar technologies and 3D laser scanning equipment.
- Support point cloud post-processing, which may include data registration, cleaning, quality checks, and preparation for drafting and modelling.
- Prepare deliverables that convey the situational picture of real-world building sites.
What you’ll bring
- A positive and open-minded learning style, thoughtful communication and organizational skills, and a knack for technology integration.
- Strong AutoCAD drafting skills; experience producing drawings from point clouds would be an asset.
- Demonstrated experience and confidence working with point cloud data.
- Attention to detail and the ability to accurately document built assets.
- An interest in learning and contributing to the broader Reality Capture workflow, from field data collection to production of final deliverables.
- Architectural drafting experience and knowledge of BOMA measurement standards would be assets.
- Revit experience would be an asset.
- Experience with LiDAR data collection or point cloud post-processing would also be an asset.
Help turn detailed scan data into practical information that design and construction teams can trust and build from.
