Shepherd Village is currently accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of Handyperson. You will support the Facilities department while working in either a long-term care or retirement setting.
What You Will Work On
Reporting to the Manager, Facilities, the successful applicant will be expected to represent Shepherd Village in a courteous and professional manner, while maintaining amicable relationships with staff, Residents and their families, in keeping with our Corporate Values.

How You’ll Create Impact
- Provide a clean, safe, and inviting environment for Shepherd Village residents to support their comfort, independence, and quality of life.
- Maintain efficient and effective performance of all aspects of the Handyperson duties while fostering positive relationships with residents, families, visitors, and staff.
- Follow all Shepherd Village policies, procedures, and Workplace Health & Safety Act requirements.
- Respond promptly to Handyperson requests, resident emergencies, building emergencies, and maintenance concerns.
- Perform routine checks of pool, boiler rooms, kitchen/serveries, water temperatures, compactors, and other building equipment, reporting deficiencies and recommending corrective action.
- Assist with deliveries, move-ins/outs, activities, catering, pest control, and other building service needs as required.
- Maintain departmental equipment in good condition and follow all Shepherd Village policies, procedures, and Occupational Health & Safety requirements.
- Foster positive and respectful relationships with residents, families, visitors, and staff.
What Are Your Skills and Experience
- MUST be qualified to work in Canada legally for the employer.
- Must be able to speak, read, and write basic English.
- 1-3 years of experience with building operations required
- Capable of lifting, moving, pushing & pulling heavy loads
- Capable of operating various machinery and equipment safely
- Promptly respond to calls for assistance, deliveries, small repair jobs, etc.
- First responder to fire alarms & other emergencies, demonstrate leadership & provide clear communication
- Good understanding of Occupational Health & Safety Act, regulations
- Ability to follow and complete a daily, weekly & monthly task schedule
- Able to accept and follow directions with minimal supervision
- Build and maintain good working relationships with coworkers
- Polite, understanding and co-operative with residents and their family members re: their housekeeping concerns, etc.
- Carry out room set ups and break downs
- Floor care, assist with resident moves
- Varied work areas and duties as assigned
