Under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Practical Nurse (RPN), the Personal Support Worker (PSW) provides quality personal and bedside care to residents in accordance with individual resident care plans, legislative requirements and the policies/procedures within the Home.
Salary: up to $26.67 per hour

Qualifications:
· Successful completion of a Personal Support Worker (PSW) program that meets the requirements set out by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, and is a minimum of 600 hours in duration. Alternative qualifications will be accepted:
- Registered Nurses (RN) or Registered Practical Nurses (RPN) with adequate skills and knowledge to perform PSW duties and holds a current certificate of competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario;
- Students currently enrolled in RN, RPN or PSW programs meeting the above standards, under appropriate supervision.
· Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively are essential.
· Ability to read, write and follow written instructions in English.
Hours of Work:
- Available 7 days/week per Collective Agreement
- Flexible hours per Collective Agreement
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs duties of the PSW as per job routines.
- Performs delegated tasks safely and effectively.
- Assists residents with activities of daily living, including eating, toileting, dressing, personal care and bathing.
- Makes beds, cleans commode chairs, wheelchairs, and other nursing equipment.
- Observes and monitors conditions of residents and report changes in physical or mental status.
- Assists with serving meals, feeding, providing nourishment supplements.
- Assists with transporting and transferring residents as needed.
- Responds to any resident in need regarding call bells, telephone ringing and assisting other employees as needed.
- Under the direction of registered staff, applies treatment creams to residents.
- Collects soiled linen using laundry bags and carts.
- Documents in resident records according to standards.
- Performs responsibilities of the position with the legislative and regulatory standards set out in applicable Provincial legislation, and the policies and procedures of the Home.
- Works co-operatively with staff, volunteers, service providers and other constituents to meet resident and family needs.
- Participates in assigned committees and teams.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Human Resources
- Models positive working relationships with team members.
- Actively participates in the education program by adhering to training requirements outlined by the home.
- Works cooperatively with students and volunteers to enhance resident care and foster community linkages.
- Participates in the orientation process for residents, students, volunteers, and staff.
Care Coordination.
- Effectively participates in conferences with the interdisciplinary team.
- Contributes to positive customer services with residents, families/Substitute Decision Makers (SDMs) and visitors in day-to-day work.
Occupational Health and Safety
- Complies with the legislative, regulatory and internal responsibilities as set forth in the Occupational Health and Safety Act, including health and safety, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Workplace Violence, Fitness for Duty etc.
- Advises supervisor/designate immediately of any incident that may result in an Occupational Accident Claim, any concerns with the physical plant, incidents or injuries and completes required forms.
- Ensures a safe environment for residents, visitors, and staff.
