Summary
The Distribution Facility Manager provides leadership and operational oversight for a bulk fertilizer distribution facility located on a rail line. This role is accountable for the safe, efficient, and compliant receipt, storage, inventory control, and truck loadout of fertilizer products, ensuring product is available and distributed accurately to support customers served by sales teams at other retail locations.
Reporting to the Division Operations Manager, the Distribution Facility Manager works collaboratively with Location Operations Managers, sales teams, supply chain partners, rail carriers, trucking providers, and other cross-functional teams to coordinate product flow, maintain facility and equipment reliability, and deliver consistent service. The role leads facility employees and drives operational excellence, safety, product integrity, cost control, and continuous improvement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead all day-to-day activities of the bulk fertilizer distribution facility, including rail receiving, product storage, inventory movement, truck scheduling, loading, and documentation.
- Coordinate with the Division Operations Manager, Location Operations Managers, sales teams, and supply chain partners to translate forecasts and customer demand into receiving, inventory, and loadout plans.
- Plan and manage railcar arrivals, unloading, placement, release, and related logistics to support timely product flow and minimize service disruption, delays, and avoidable costs.
- Ensure accurate inventory control through disciplined receiving, measurement, reconciliation, documentation, and reporting practices; investigate and resolve variances in a timely manner.
- Maintain product quality and integrity by overseeing proper storage, handling, segregation, housekeeping, contamination prevention, and loadout procedures.
- Ensure the facility operates in compliance with company policies, safety programs, environmental standards, emergency response requirements, and applicable regulatory obligations.
- Lead facility safety activities, including hazard identification, safe work procedures, inspections, incident follow-up, training, and corrective actions, while fostering a strong culture of personal accountability.
- Develop and execute preventive maintenance, inspection, repair, and replacement plans for buildings, fertilizer handling systems, rail-related infrastructure, mobile equipment, and other facility assets.
- Monitor facility performance, operating expenses, maintenance priorities, capacity, service levels, and operational risks; provide clear reporting and recommendations to the Division Operations Manager.
- Identify and implement process improvements that increase safety, reliability, throughput, inventory accuracy, cost effectiveness, and service to internal retail partners and their customers.
- Lead, develop, and support employees by setting clear expectations, organizing work, providing coaching and feedback, managing performance, and ensuring required training and qualifications are maintained.
- Build effective working relationships with rail carriers, trucking providers, contractors, suppliers, and internal partners; establish clear service expectations and address operational issues promptly.
- Support annual operating and capital planning by identifying facility, equipment, staffing, and infrastructure requirements that protect continuity of supply and long-term asset performance.
- Maintain accurate operational, maintenance, safety, environmental, inventory, and regulatory records in accordance with company requirements.

Qualifications and Requirements
- Post-secondary education in operations, supply chain, business, agriculture, engineering technology, or a related field is preferred; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
- Minimum of 5 years of related experience in bulk fertilizer, agricultural inputs, industrial operations, warehousing, distribution, logistics, or a comparable environment is preferred.
- Previous leadership experience, including directing work, coaching employees, and managing performance, is strongly preferred.
- Experience coordinating rail and truck logistics, bulk material handling, inventory control, and facility maintenance is preferred.
- Working knowledge of fertilizer products, safe handling practices, environmental requirements, and operational controls is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to recognize equipment and process issues, coordinate repairs, and make sound operational decisions in a time-sensitive environment.
- Proficiency with business systems, inventory and reporting tools, and electronic or automated facility control systems.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence and the ability to obtain and maintain role-specific training, licences, or certifications required by the company or applicable regulations.
- Ability to work in indoor and outdoor industrial environments, around rail and mobile equipment, at elevations, and in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role, including lifting up to 50 pounds and using required personal protective equipment.
- Ability to work extended or varied hours during peak periods and respond to urgent operational or facility needs as required.
