- Position: Field Supervisor
- Compensation: $65,000 – $80,000 / annually
- Note: Starting pay is determined by experience and qualifications.
- Plan drilling programs with the project engineer: borehole locations, depths, sampling intervals, and in-situ tests.
- Arrange utility locates, site access, permits and traffic control before mobilization.
- Direct drilling subcontractors on site and keep the program on scope, schedule and budget.
- Log soil and rock in the field, including visual classification, SPT blow counts, core recovery and RQD.
- Collect, label and preserve soil, rock and groundwater samples, and assign laboratory testing.
- Competently perform conventional aspects of geotechnical engineering, analysis and reporting, preparing geotechnical factual and interpretative reports including audit, analyzing and collating performance data and reporting.
- Undertake basic management of projects including but not limited to supervision field activities, coordination of sub-consultants and sub-contractors, Project’s Key indicators and client satisfaction.
- Ensure a high quality of design package, reporting and analysis is delivered to the Client within specified time & budget and ensuring client satisfaction including maintaining good client relationships and client development.
- Understanding of a variety of soil mechanics analyses and design including foundation engineering design and competently perform conventional aspects of design engineering and analysis and construction supervision.
- Carry out or oversee in-situ testing, such as field vane, cone penetration and packer tests, etc.
- Supervise installation of monitoring wells and piezometers, and measure groundwater levels.
- Confirm boreholes are backfilled or decommissioned to Ontario Regulation 903 requirements.
- Prepare final borehole logs and field summaries, and contribute to geotechnical reports.
- Lead site safety for the drilling crew, including daily tailgate meetings and hazard assessments.
- Track drilling quantities and verify subcontractor invoices against work completed.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in civil, geotechnical or geological engineering.
- Registered as an EIT or P.Eng. with Professional Engineers Ontario, or eligible for registration.
- [1 to 3] years of experience supervising geotechnical drilling and logging boreholes.
- Working knowledge of soil and rock classification, SPT procedures and common drilling methods.
