Job DetailsJob Location: Toronto Office - Richmond Hill, ON L4B 1J2Position Type: Full TimeEducation Level: 4 Year DegreeSalary Range: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 Salary/yearJob Category: AccountingThe General Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end and year-end close, preparing financial reports and reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and company policy. This role also owns commission payment processing: calculating, validating, and ensuring commissions are paid accurately, on time, and in line with contractual agreements.
Compensation: CAD $65,000–$75,000
Vacancy Status: This is an exciting opportunity to join our team in a key role with immediate availability.
Hybrid Schedule: First week new hire training will be 3-5 days in office, then once per week in office on Thursdays.
Office Location: Richmond Hill, ON L4B 1J2
What You'll Do:
Prepare journal entries, accruals, and adjusting entries
Maintain the general ledger and perform account reconciliations
Support month-end and year-end close and financial reporting
Reconcile bank, credit card, and intercompany accounts
Monitor AR/AP and support tax and regulatory filings
Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules
Calculate, validate, reconcile, and process commission payments
Review commission calculations and investigate discrepancies
Prepare commission statements and maintain supporting documentation
Support audits and ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal controls
Identify opportunities to improve accounting and commission processes
Assist with special projects and other finance-related duties as needed
What You'll Bring - Core Competencies:
Accounting Foundation: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; 3–5 years of accounting experience
Commissions & Close: Experience with commissions/incentive compensation and month-end close
Technical Knowledge: Strong knowledge of GAAP/IFRS
Excel Proficiency: Advanced skills, including PivotTables and XLOOKUP
Systems Experience: ERP/accounting systems experience; NetSuite a plus
AI & Tech Fluency: Comfortable using AI-assisted tools (e.g., reconciliation support, reporting, data analysis) to boost accuracy and efficiency, while knowing when a task needs hands-on review
Analytical & Organizational Skills: Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and ability to manage multiple priorities
Credentials: CPA designation or progress toward CPA is an asset
