Our client, a well-established employment and labour law boutique in downtown Toronto, is seeking an experienced Litigation Legal Assistant to support a busy, fast-paced practice. This is an opportunity to work closely with senior counsel on a high volume of employment disputes in a lean, collaborative team where your contributions are visible and valued.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Prepare, format, and proofread pleadings, motion records, affidavits, facta, and correspondence for employment-related claims
- Open, maintain, and close litigation files, keeping matters organized from intake through settlement or trial
- Issue, file, and serve court and tribunal documents, and track limitation periods and procedural deadlines
- Book and coordinate examinations for discovery, mediations, pre-trial conferences, and hearings
- Prepare materials for proceedings before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, Small Claims Court, and administrative tribunals
- Assemble document briefs, chronologies, and case summaries to support counsel
- Act as a point of contact for clients, opposing counsel, court offices, and mediators
- Keep electronic and paper files current and accurately indexed
- Assist with docketing, billing, and general administrative needs of the litigation group
What We're Looking For
- 2+ years of legal assistant experience in civil litigation; exposure to employment, labour, or human rights matters is a strong asset
- Working knowledge of the Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure, including Simplified Procedure, and court e-filing
- Familiarity with tribunal processes (e.g. HRTO) is an asset
- Comfort with practice management, document management, and billing platforms
- Excellent written communication and a sharp eye for accuracy
- Ability to juggle multiple files and tight deadlines with composure
- Legal Assistant or Law Clerk diploma is an asset
