SMS Equipment is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Site Superintendent to lead a large mining service team based in Elkford. Reporting to the Service Manager, this role provides leadership to approximately 12 supervisors who support roughly 130 trades employees, while strengthening safety, customer relationships, operational efficiency, and workforce performance.
Working primarily from the Elkford branch, you will coordinate shop and field service activity, support customer needs, guide leaders, improve work processes, and help ensure work is completed safely, productively, and within established quality and cost expectations.

Salary: $130,000 - $140,000 per year based on experience, plus incentives
Work Arrangement: Fixed On-Site
Schedule: 14 days on / 14 days off, Tuesday to Tuesday, straight days
What You'll Do
- Lead, coach, mentor, and develop a team of supervisors responsible for a large skilled trades workforce.
- Promote participation in and compliance with safety policies, procedures, environmental controls, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Organize and monitor shop and field service work, including local and remote activities, to meet customer commitments and operational priorities.
- Set priorities, maintain service schedules, allocate resources, and monitor timelines, productivity, quality, and cost performance.
- Build constructive relationships with customers, employees, leadership, manufacturers, and internal partners.
- Drive continuous improvement by improving workflows, implementing effective processes, reducing waste and defects, and supporting equipment reliability.
- Monitor performance indicators, including production, variance, quality, and safety reporting, and take appropriate action within delegated authority.
- Participate in workforce planning, recruitment, orientation, training, and employee development.
- Support quotations, customer issue resolution, and recommendations that require escalation to the Service Manager or Operations Manager.
- Keep current on industry practices, information, and technology affecting the service function.
What You'll Bring
You are a safety-focused operational leader who can guide a large mining service team, build strong customer relationships, and translate business priorities into clear plans and consistent execution. You combine practical trade knowledge with sound judgment, business acumen, and a commitment to developing people.
Additional qualifications include:
- 5+ years of experience as a qualified journeyperson in a relevant trade.
- 3+ years of leadership experience at the lead hand, supervisor, or more senior
- Experience coaching, mentoring, and developing employees.
- Ability to set priorities, schedule work, and communicate short- and long-term goals.
- Strong safety knowledge and commitment to safe work practices.
- Experience managing costs, budgets, resources, or operational performance.
- Sound judgment to make decisions within scope, escalate when needed, and coordinate internal support.
Nice to Have:
- Mining or heavy equipment industry experience.
- Experience introducing new processes or continuous improvement initiatives.
