South Slave Divisional Education Council (SSDEC) Empowering Communities Through Education in the South Slave

Welcome to the SSDEC, a cornerstone of educational excellence and cultural preservation in Canada's Northwest Territories. We're a dedicated school board serving the vibrant communities of Fort Smith, Hay River, Fort Resolution, Kátł’odeeche First Nation Reserve, and Łutsel K’e - a testament to our commitment to education across vast distances and diverse landscapes.

Eight Schools, One Mission: With schools varying from 60 to 300 students, we boast a total of over 1300 bright, young minds across the South Slave region.

Tailored Education: From full K-12 schools in our smaller communities to separate elementary, middle, and high schools in larger ones, we offer educational frameworks that are uniquely tailored to our region's needs.

A Melting Pot of Cultures: Approx 70% Indigenous, our schools celebrate a rich cultural tapestry, with five languages flourishing within our walls: Chipewyan, Cree, Slavey, French, and English.

Locally Rooted Leadership: Our governance stems from the community itself, with locally elected District Education Authorities (DEAs) and a representative on the District Education Council (DEC) ensuring that our policies and initiatives resonate with the people we serve.

Educational Needs First: We are steadfast in our mission to meet the educational needs of every student, guided by the language and culture that form the bedrock of our communities.

Strategic Resource Allocation: Our vision is brought to life through careful policy establishment, financial resource allocation, and the monitoring and reporting of our outcomes.

Join us in our journey to nurture, educate, and inspire the next generation, bridging distances with connectivity, tradition with innovation, and community spirit with academic achievement.
