Finance Manager - Job Posting Summary
The Finance Manager is responsible for overseeing the organization’s day-to-day accounting operations and ensuring the accuracy, completeness, timeliness, and integrity of its financial records. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Finance Manager leads the month-end and year-end accounting processes, oversees accounts payable and accounts receivable, and provides direct supervision, technical guidance, and performance support to Finance Clerks.
The role provides operational leadership across general ledger accounting, reconciliations, accruals, prepaid expenses, capital assets, inventory, fleet financial administration, and other key balance sheet activities. The Finance Manager ensures transactions and financial information are properly recorded, supported, reconciled, and maintained in accordance with established policies, procedures, internal controls, and accounting standards.
Process Improvement & Financial Management
- Strengthen financial processes, internal controls, and accounting procedures.
- Identify issues, risks, and process gaps and implement corrective actions.
- Support financial systems, automation, policy development, audits, and compliance.
- Provide accurate financial information and insights to support the CFO.
- Identify financial trends and risks and recommend appropriate actions.
- Resolve routine accounting issues and escalate significant matters with clear analysis and recommendations.
The Finance Manager also provides leadership to the Finance clerks by establishing priorities and performance expectations, reviewing work for accuracy and compliance, providing technical accounting guidance, supporting staff development and cross-training, and ensuring critical accounting processes have appropriate documentation and backup coverage.
Overall, the Finance Manager plays a critical role in maintaining strong financial operations, reliable financial information, effective internal controls, audit readiness, and continuous improvement across the organization’s accounting function.
Education
- Post-secondary education in accounting, finance, business administration or a related discipline.
- A Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation, completion of a recognized accounting program, or progress toward a professional accounting designation would be considered an asset and may be preferred depending on the final scope and compensation level.
