Reporting to the Clinical Manager, Emergency Department, the Emergency Department Nursing Workforce Coordinator provides operational and administrative support for nursing workforce planning, staffing coordination, workforce analytics, and implementation of workforce initiatives within a large academic emergency department. The role serves as a key partner in supporting workforce sustainability, optimizing nursing resource utilization, and enhancing operational effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
Workforce Planning and Coordination
- Coordinate nursing workforce planning activities, including staffing establishment records, vacancy tracking, position control, onboarding milestones, probationary reviews, and workforce reporting.
- Support nursing schedule coordination processes and workforce sustainability initiatives.
- Monitor staffing trends, including vacancies, overtime, sick time, premium labour utilization, and workforce utilization
- Support recruitment and retention initiatives and maintain workforce-related documentation and action plans.
- Supporting workforce skill mix models including health disciplines and clerical staffing
Workforce Analytics and Reporting
- Develop and maintain workforce dashboards, scorecards, and reports to support operational decision-making.
- Support benchmarking initiatives and comparative analyses with peer organizations.
- Identify trends and emerging workforce risks and provide recommendations to leadership.
- Prepare briefing materials and reports for leadership and governance committees.
Operational and Administrative Support
- Coordinate implementation and tracking of workforce initiatives, including scheduling committee recommendations and staffing model changes.
- Support nursing workforce communications and engagement initiatives.
- Maintain workforce action logs and ensure follow-up of key initiatives.
- Provide administrative support for operational projects and departmental priorities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Health Administration, Health Sciences, Business Administration, or a related discipline required. Master’s degree preferred.
- Registration in good standing with a regulatory college.
- Minimum five (5) years of patient care experience in an acute care environment required, preferably Emergency Services.
- Experience in workforce planning, healthcare operations, project coordination, analytics, or nursing administration preferred.
- Experience in a unionized healthcare environment considered an asset.
- Strong understanding of hospital operations and emergency department workflows.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, reporting tools, and presentation software.
- Exceptional communication and relationship management abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a complex and fast-paced environment.
