Role Description This full-time, on-site Avocat(e) en droit criminel role is based in Montreal, QC. The criminal law attorney will represent clients in a wide range of criminal and regulatory matters, including impaired driving, violent offenses, financial crimes, and youth justice cases. Day-to-day responsibilities include meeting with clients, assessing case files, conducting legal research, drafting motions and other legal documents, negotiating with prosecutors, and appearing in court at different stages of proceedings. The role also involves developing defense strategies, preparing clients and witnesses for hearings and trials, and maintaining clear, respectful communication with clients throughout the legal process. The attorney will collaborate with the firm’s team to ensure high-quality, strategic representation and consistent follow-up on all active files.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of criminal law and procedure in Quebec, including experience or training related to impaired driving, violent offenses, financial crimes, and youth criminal justice.
- Proficiency in legal research, case analysis, and drafting legal documents such as motions, pleadings, and written submissions.
- Effective oral advocacy skills for negotiations, court appearances, and examinations of witnesses.
- Excellent client communication, active listening, and the ability to explain complex legal issues clearly and respectfully.
- Ability to manage multiple files, prioritize tasks, and work under time-sensitive conditions while maintaining attention to detail.
- Fluency in French and strong working proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
- Member in good standing of the Barreau du Québec, or eligibility for membership.
- Demonstrated commitment to ethical practice, confidentiality, and respect for diverse clients and communities.
- Previous experience in criminal defense or related internships and clerkships is an asset.
