About the Role
STW Field Install & Welding Inc. is looking for an experienced Structural Steel Erection Supervisor to oversee structural steel installation activities on construction and industrial projects.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising field crews, coordinating daily erection activities, maintaining productivity, and ensuring all work is completed safely and in accordance with project drawings, specifications, quality requirements, and applicable regulations.
This is a hands-on field leadership position suited to someone with strong structural steel erection experience and the ability to lead ironworkers, welders, fitters, equipment operators, and other site personnel.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate structural steel erection and field installation activities.
- Lead and direct ironworkers, welders, fitters, labourers, and equipment operators.
- Review structural drawings, erection plans, shop drawings, and project specifications.
- Plan daily work activities, crew assignments, equipment requirements, and material movement.
- Coordinate structural steel receiving, laydown, sorting, staging, and installation.
- Ensure columns, beams, braces, joists, decking, stairs, platforms, and miscellaneous steel are installed correctly.
- Coordinate crane, telehandler, boom lift, scissor lift, and other lifting equipment activities.
- Ensure proper rigging, lifting, bolting, welding, alignment, plumbing, and final installation of structural components.
- Monitor project progress and report schedule, productivity, material, or manpower issues to the Project Manager.
- Coordinate with project management, clients, general contractors, inspectors, engineers, and other trades.
- Conduct daily toolbox talks and participate in site safety meetings.
- Ensure workers comply with company and site-specific health and safety requirements.
- Identify hazards and ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
- Ensure completed work meets applicable drawings, specifications, welding requirements, and quality standards.
- Assist with inspections, deficiency correction, punch-list activities, and project turnover.
- Maintain daily reports, manpower records, equipment records, and other required field documentation.
- Immediately report incidents, deficiencies, damaged materials, non-conformances, and site issues.
- Support project mobilization and demobilization activities.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of structural steel erection or steel construction experience preferred.
- Previous experience as a Foreman, Supervisor, Superintendent, or Lead Hand is strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of structural steel erection methods and sequencing.
- Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, erection drawings, and shop drawings.
- Knowledge of bolted and welded structural steel connections.
- Strong understanding of rigging, hoisting, cranes, aerial work platforms, and material-handling equipment.
- Experience supervising crews on commercial, industrial, mining, or heavy construction projects.
- Strong understanding of construction health and safety requirements.
- Ability to coordinate multiple field activities while maintaining schedule and productivity.
- Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver's licence.
- Willingness to travel and work at remote project locations when required.
