Operating Room Scheduler
Position Summary
The Operating Room Scheduler is responsible for the coordination, development, and ongoing management of Operating Room nursing schedules, PSP and related staffing requirements. The Scheduler works closely with Operating Room leadership, and other internal stakeholders to ensure appropriate staffing levels and effective utilization of resources.
The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate and equitable schedules while ensuring compliance with applicable
ONA and SEIU Collective Agreements, organizational policies, and established scheduling practices.
The Scheduler will monitor Operating Room activity, including periods of increased or decreased surgical volume, and make appropriate scheduling adjustments to align staffing levels with operational requirements. The Scheduler will also regularly review staffing trends and forecast future staffing needs to support safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations.
Summary Of Duties
The Scheduler is responsible for executing a variety of administrative and scheduling duties in support of the Operating Room, including:
- Develop, coordinate, and maintain Operating Room nursing schedules and PSP in collaboration with OR leadership.
- Prepare and adjust schedules based on Operating Room activity, surgical volumes, planned slowdowns, cancellations, workload fluctuations, and operational requirements.
- Regularly assess staffing requirements and forecast future staffing needs based on historical trends, anticipated surgical volumes, vacations, leaves, education, and other operational factors.
- Ensure schedules are developed and maintained in accordance with applicable ONA and SEIU Collective Agreements, organizational policies, and established scheduling guidelines.
- Review scheduling requests, vacations, overtime, call requirements, shift changes, and other staffing-related matters.
- Monitor staffing levels and identify potential gaps or overstaffing in advance, escalating concerns to the appropriate leadership when required.
- Make timely schedule adjustments
- Maintain accurate scheduling information and records within UKG Pro-WFM and other applicable systems.
- Provide timely communication regarding schedule changes and ensure affected staff are appropriately notified.
- Apply collective agreement provisions consistently and accurately when developing and modifying schedules.
- Respond to scheduling inquiries and resolve routine scheduling issues using sound judgment and established policies and procedures.
- Perform other related administrative and scheduling duties as required.
Qualifications/Skills
- Successful completion of one (1) year of a Community College program, preferably in Office Administration, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of one (1) year of administrative experience, preferably within a fast-paced, high-volume healthcare environment.
