Seeking a litigation lawyer called to the British Columbia Bar with strong general litigation experience and an interest in developing expertise in estate and trust litigation. The role offers hands-on exposure to sophisticated disputes, courtroom advocacy, and progressively increasing responsibility.
Responsibilities
- Draft pleadings, affidavits, mediation briefs, written submissions, and other court materials
- Contribute to and develop litigation strategy
- Communicate with clients and opposing counsel
- Prepare for and attend chambers applications, examinations for discovery, mediations, and trials
- Conduct court appearances and examinations independently, commensurate with experience
- Progressively assume responsibility for individual files
- Work alongside counsel on larger and more complex matters
- Develop expertise in estate and trust litigation through mentorship and practical experience
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of litigation experience
- Member in good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia
- Solid general litigation experience
- Experience drafting pleadings and affidavits and preparing court applications
- Experience preparing for examinations for discovery and mediations
- Strong knowledge of the Supreme Court Civil Rules
- Estate and trust litigation experience is preferred but not required
- Strong analytical and legal writing skills
- Sound judgment and exceptional attention to detail
- Collegial, collaborative, and motivated to develop litigation expertise
