Purpose
The Senior Manager, Sustainability is a member of the global Sustainability team responsible for advancing Sysco's sustainability strategy, Securing the Future of Food, across Canada while also contributing to broader North America growth priorities as part of the global team. This role will be responsible for driving key Sustainability initiatives across the Canada organization, with a particular focus on growing One Planet One Table assortment with customers as the lead KPI, while also advancing other elements of the strategy including supplier engagement, sustainability data and tools, customer enablement, and cross-functional program delivery. The ideal candidate combines sustainability expertise with strong program management and stakeholder engagement skills to deliver measurable environmental and business impact.
Responsibilities
Market-Level Strategy & Planning
- Develop and execute sustainability plans for the Canadian market that align with Sysco's global strategic framework and local regulatory requirements.
- Identify opportunities to integrate sustainability into core business processes and operations.
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to advance sustainability objectives.
- Partner with internal teams (merchandising, operations, technology, marketing) to embed sustainability into decision-making.
- Support broader North America growth initiatives as part of the global Sustainability team, helping scale customer sustainability solutions, commercial storytelling, and best practices across markets where relevant.
Program Development & Execution
- Grow the One Planet, One Table sustainable assortment in Canada, partnering with merchandising, technology, marketing, and other cross-functional teams.
- Lead Sysco Canada's Emerging Supplier Program with an initial focus on indigenous vendors through the Pathways to Procurement initiative.
- Drive Sysco Canada's sustainability messaging and stakeholder engagement activities.
Sales Enablement & Customer Engagement
- Provide strategic guidance and leadership to support local and national sales teams with sustainability collateral, RFP responses, and targeted strategies for key customers. Serve as escalation point for complex issues and customer requests overseen by the sustainability coordinator.
- Act as a sustainability subject matter expert (SME) for customer-facing initiatives, including food donations, waste management, fleet optimization, and facilities strategies.
Performance Tracking & Reporting
- Establish processes for tracking market-specific sustainability initiatives, analyzing impact, and reporting results to leadership. Ensure ongoing program improvement through feedback, data-driven insights, and cross-functional collaboration.
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Business, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
- 7+ years of experience in sustainability strategy, program management, or related roles, ideally within foodservice or consumer goods.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian sustainability regulations.
- Proven ability to lead complex initiatives and influence senior stakeholders
Education
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field is preferred.
