Project Manager – General Contracting
Location: Ontario
Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Compensation: $120,000–$140,000, commensurate with experience
The Opportunity
A well-established construction firm is looking to add an experienced Project Manager to its team.
This position will suit someone who has managed substantial ICI projects and is comfortable taking ownership of a project from early planning through final turnover. The Project Manager will act as a key point of coordination between field operations, consultants, trade contractors, clients and internal leadership.
The company offers some flexibility around where the successful candidate is based, provided they are able to attend the project site and key meetings when required.
Depending on experience, the scope and seniority of the position may be adjusted.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Take ownership of assigned projects from startup through completion.
- Work closely with field leadership to keep construction activities aligned with schedule, budget and contractual requirements.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, cost controls, forecasts and reporting.
- Coordinate tendering, subcontractor selection, scope reviews and contract administration.
- Review drawings, specifications and consultant documentation for coordination issues and potential risks.
- Manage RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, contemplated changes and other project documentation.
- Track project costs and administer change orders, progress draws and financial reporting.
- Chair and participate in project meetings with clients, consultants and trade partners.
- Identify schedule, procurement, design and construction challenges before they affect project delivery.
- Support the site team in resolving coordination and constructability issues.
- Maintain strong working relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and internal departments.
- Ensure project documentation, contractual obligations and closeout requirements are properly managed.
- Oversee commissioning, deficiencies, turnover and final project completion.
- Provide direction and mentorship to junior project staff where required.
What We’re Looking For
- Proven project management experience within the Ontario general contracting industry.
- Background managing mid-sized to large ICI construction projects.
- Strong preference for candidates with ground-up construction experience.
- Exposure to institutional, public-sector, commercial or similarly complex projects is beneficial.
- Strong knowledge of construction contracts, drawings, specifications, procurement and project controls.
- Demonstrated experience managing budgets, schedules, subcontractors and change management.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and make sound decisions in a fast-moving construction environment.
- Comfortable working closely with both office and field teams.
- Familiarity with common construction management, scheduling and reporting platforms.
- Relevant construction, engineering or technical education is an asset.
The Profile
The successful candidate will be someone who can see the full picture of a construction project rather than focusing solely on administration.
You should be comfortable managing commercial matters, coordinating with the site team, dealing directly with consultants and clients, and taking responsibility for overall project performance.
A practical, organized and solutions-oriented approach will be important, along with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of project stakeholders.
Why Consider the Role?
- Join a stable Ontario construction organization with an active project pipeline.
- Manage a substantial new-build assignment.
- Competitive compensation tied to experience.
- Flexibility in working arrangements.
- Direct exposure to senior decision-makers.
- Opportunity for continued progression as the business grows.
