Our client, an established organization within the manufacturing and distribution sector, is seeking an experienced
Shipping Coordinator to support its busy Mississauga operation. This is a temporary opportunity with the potential to transition into a permanent position for the right individual.
The Shipping Coordinator will play a central role in coordinating inbound and outbound shipments, working closely with carriers, internal operations teams, and customers to keep transportation activities running efficiently. This position combines hands-on logistics coordination with the administrative accuracy required to manage schedules, documentation, inventory movement, and changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
The Role
- Coordinate daily inbound and outbound shipments across truck, rail, and intermodal transportation.
- Manage shipping appointments, carrier schedules, dispatch requirements, and internal operational priorities.
- Coordinate with carriers and internal teams to support on-time pickups, deliveries, and efficient movement of materials.
- Monitor shipments in progress and proactively respond to delays, schedule changes, or transportation issues.
- Receive and prioritize routine and urgent dispatch requests.
- Communicate shipping instructions, requirements, and changes to drivers, warehouse teams, and operations personnel.
- Prepare, review, and process shipping documentation, ensuring records are complete and accurate.
- Maintain organized electronic shipping records, dispatch logs, and documentation for traceability.
- Coordinate with inventory and operations teams to track materials, storage locations, and special orders.
- Support inventory verification and cycle-count activities as required.
- Work cross-functionally with Purchasing, Sales, Inventory, Finance, and Operations to coordinate product arrivals and outgoing shipments.
- Liaise with carriers to resolve service, scheduling, or documentation discrepancies.
- Identify opportunities to improve shipping, dispatch, and administrative processes.
- Ensure shipping activities and documentation meet internal procedures, customer requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
The Ideal Candidate
- Previous experience in logistics coordination, shipping administration, dispatch, transportation, or a similar role.
- Experience within a manufacturing, distribution, warehouse, or industrial environment is preferred.
- Experience coordinating truck, rail, or intermodal transportation is an asset.
- Strong logistics scheduling and carrier coordination skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy when preparing documentation and maintaining records.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple time-sensitive priorities.
- Confident communicator who can work effectively with carriers, drivers, customers, warehouse teams, and internal stakeholders.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and related business applications.
- Experience using ERP, transportation management, inventory, or document management systems.
- Strong computer literacy with the ability to work across multiple systems simultaneously.
- Proactive problem-solving skills and the ability to adjust quickly when schedules or priorities change.
- Post-secondary education in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field is an asset.
- Transportation, logistics, or dispatch-related coursework or certification is considered an asset.
- Available to start quickly and interested in a temporary opportunity with the potential to become permanent.
