We're seeking Independent Contractors to provide donation collection services throughout assigned service areas.
As an Independent Contractor, you will collect donated clothing, textiles, and household goods from donation bins, residential pickups, and designated collection locations. You will operate your own business using your own vehicle and equipment while meeting contractual service standards established by Recycling Rewards.
This opportunity is structured as an independent contractor relationship and is not employment. Contractors determine how services are performed while meeting agreed-upon service requirements.
Compensation
Compensation is based on completed collection services, serviced locations, pounds collected, route volume, or other mutually agreed service metrics.
Contractors invoice Recycling Rewards for services performed in accordance with the Independent Contractor Agreement.
No minimum volume of work is guaranteed.
What You’ll Be Doing - Every Day is Game Day
Scope of Work
- Collection Services & Route Operations:
- Service designated donation bin locations.
- Complete residential donation pickups and special collection requests.
- Collect, load, transport, and unload donated goods safely and efficiently.
- Maintain clean and presentable collection sites.
- Remove garbage and debris surrounding donation bins where required at your own expense.
- Identify and report damaged bins, site concerns, illegal dumping, and safety hazards.
- Deliver collected materials to designated Recycling Rewards facilities.
- Complete collection services within agreed service windows and performance requirements.
- Vehicle Operations & Maintenance:
- Supply and operate your own cargo van, cube van, or suitable commercial vehicle.
- Maintain the vehicle in safe operating condition.
- Ensure vehicle cleanliness and professional presentation.
- Provide all fuel, maintenance, repair, and operating expenses required to perform collection services.
- Safety, Compliance & Reporting:
- Follow all applicable federal, provincial, and municipal laws and regulations.
- Maintain all licences, permits, inspections, insurance, and transportation compliance requirements applicable to your vehicle and operation, including a CVOR where legally required.
- Use appropriate PPE and safe lifting practices.
- Promptly report accidents, incidents, injuries, or property damage.
- Maintain accurate service logs and operational documentation.
- Customer Service & Communication:
- Provide professional and courteous service to donors, customers, property managers, and community partners.
- Maintain communication regarding service issues, collection concerns, or operational challenges.
- Utilize mobile applications and route-management technology where required.
- Submit service documentation and invoices accurately and on time.
What You Bring - Skills That Turn Heads
Minimum Requirements
- Own or independently lease a cargo van, cube van, or suitable commercial vehicle.
- Valid Ontario driver's licence appropriate for the vehicle operated.
- Commercial automobile and liability insurance.
- Business registration or willingness to establish a legal business.
- HST registration where required by law.
- Reliable smartphone with mobile data access.
- Strong time-management and route-planning abilities.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining service standards.
- Ability to provide proof of vehicle ownership or lease agreement.
- Ability to provide proof of insurance and required registrations.
- Ability to satisfy all transportation compliance obligations applicable to the vehicle being operated.
- Ability to pass background screening if required.
Additional Strengths That Make You Stand Out
- Previous experience in transportation, delivery, courier, logistics, collections, or moving services.
- Experience operating a small business or working as an independent contractor.
- Basic mechanical aptitude.
- Strong communication and customer-service skills.
- Familiarity with the GTA and surrounding service areas.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, twist, lift, push, and pull throughout the day.
- Lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis.
- Comfortable performing physical work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to safely operate a vehicle for extended periods.
- Ability to load and unload donated materials throughout the day.

Independent Contractor - Not Employment
This is a business-to-business independent contractor opportunity. It is not a job offer and does not create an employer-employee relationship. The selected contractor will enter into an Independent Contractor Agreement with Recycling Rewards to provide specified collection services.
In operating your independent business, you will:
- Operate an independent business and determine how services are performed while meeting the service, safety, legal, and reporting requirements set out in the Independent Contractor Agreement.
- Be responsible for all applicable taxes, CPP contributions, remittances, insurance, licences, permits, equipment, personnel, and operating expenses.
- Maintain a legally registered business, including a CRA business number and HST registration where applicable.
- Own or independently lease a suitable commercial vehicle and maintain valid registration, inspections, permits, and a CVOR certificate where legally required.
- Maintain commercial automobile insurance and commercial general liability insurance with minimum coverage of $2 million per occurrence, or such other coverage as required under the Independent Contractor Agreement.
- Provide proof of WSIB coverage, a clearance certificate, or an independent operator status determination, as applicable.
- Provide all fuel, maintenance, repairs, equipment, personal protective equipment, and other resources required to perform the services.
- May engage qualified employees or subcontractors, subject to applicable legal, insurance, safety, and contractual requirements.
- Assume responsibility for the profit, loss, and business risk associated with the operation.
The contractor is a self-employed business operator and not an employee, worker, agent, partner, or representative of Recycling Rewards. The contractor is not entitled to wages, overtime pay, vacation pay, public holiday pay, benefits, severance, termination pay, or any other employee entitlement from Recycling Rewards. The contractor remains responsible for all business obligations, risks, expenses, taxes, remittances, insurance, and personnel associated with providing the services.
