Taurus Group of Companies is recruiting a Financial Controller, based at our Active AgriScience head office and manufacturing facility in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The role will lead accounting for Active AgriScience and expand to its sister company, Taurus Agricultural Marketing, as part of the Taurus Group of Companies.

Role Overview
As Financial Controller, you will own the accounting function for Active AgriScience and Taurus Agricultural Marketing. You will lead month end and year end close, prepare monthly and consolidated financial statements, and set the controls that keep the group’s finances accurate and on schedule.
This is a hands-on leadership role. Alongside the controller mandate, you will run day-to-day accounts payable for both companies, including processing weekly and monthly payments in CAD and USD.
In This Role, You Will
Accounts Payable
- Own full cycle accounts payable for both companies, including weekly and monthly payment processing
- Utilize QuickBooks Enterprise and Tronia Systems’ agrē
- Set up and maintain vendor accounts, including obtaining banking information for new vendors
- Prepare payment batches for management authorization
- Process ACH, EFT, wire transfer, cheque, and online banking payments
Banking and Cash Management
- Review daily bank balances and monitor cash flow
- Prepare weekly payment runs in CAD and USD
- Build and maintain rolling cash flow forecasts and advise leadership on funding needs
- Manage banking relationships, lines of credit, and annual credit reviews
- Manage USD exposure, including foreign currency purchases for supplier payments
Accounting and Month End
- Maintain accurate, up to date accounting records
- Record journal entries as required
- Own and review month end close for both companies, including the close calendar
- Prepare all bank account and credit card reconciliations
- Review and adjust accruals and prepaid expenses
- Respond to accounting inquiries from management, customers, and vendors
- Manage intercompany transactions and consolidation across group entities
Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly financial statements for each company
- Deliver variance analysis and financial insight to ownership and the Senior Leadership Team
Budgeting and Forecasting
- Lead the annual budgeting process for both companies
- Prepare forecasts and track performance against budget
Tax and Government Compliance
- Prepare and file monthly GST/HST returns and annual PST returns
- Manage CRA correspondence through CRA My Business Account
- Complete corporate information filings and other regulatory filings through provincial government portals
- Complete annual WCB reporting
- Support corporate tax planning and filings with the external accountants, including SR&ED claims where applicable
Year End and Audit Coordination
- Lead year end close and act as primary contact for the external accountants, including preparing working papers and supporting documents
- Respond to audit requests and answer accounting questions
- Coordinate inventory counts with the external accountant
Internal Controls and Process
- Establish and maintain internal controls, approval policies, and segregation of duties across the group
- Ensure payments you process are released under a second level of approval
- Champion process improvement and automation across accounting systems
Manufacturing and Inventory Finance
- Own inventory accounting for Active AgriScience, spanning raw materials, production, and finished goods
- Develop product costing, cost of goods sold, and margin reporting by product line
What You Bring to the Team
- Hands-on experience in full cycle accounts payable, month end close, and bank reconciliations
- Working knowledge of GST/HST, PST, corporate tax, and WCB filing requirements
- Proven experience preparing monthly and consolidated financial statements and supporting schedules
- Experience building budgets, forecasts, and cash flow models
- Experience designing and maintaining internal controls in a lean organization
- Experience with inventory accounting and product costing in a manufacturing or distribution environment
- Ability to communicate financial results clearly to ownership and senior leadership
- Experience with QuickBooks Enterprise; familiarity with RBC Express, CRA My Business Account, BMO online and Tronia Systems’ agrē is an asset
- Experience working in multi-currency accounting systems
- Comfort with CAD and USD EFT transactions, wires
- Strong attention to detail and a habit of keeping records current daily to avoid backlog
- Ability to manage month end and year end deadlines across more than one company
- Clear communication with management, vendors, customers, and external accountants
- Discretion with confidential financial information
Experience and Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field
- CPA designation preferred, or nearing completion
- A minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 to 3 years in a controller, senior accountant, or supervisory role
- Experience leading year end audits or review engagements with external accountants
- Experience with multi-entity, multi-currency (CAD and USD) accounting and consolidation
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Enterprise or a comparable accounting system, and Microsoft Office
- Experience in agriculture is an asset but not a requirement
