About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced Staff Device Program Manager to join its Device Engineering organization and lead complex hardware programs from early concept and design through manufacturing and mass production.
This position sits at the intersection of hardware engineering and technical program management. We're looking for someone with enough hardware depth to work credibly alongside engineering teams while bringing the program-management expertise necessary to drive large, complex device programs.
You won't be expected to personally troubleshoot every engineering issue. Instead, you should be technically fluent enough to understand the work taking place, participate meaningfully in technical discussions, identify risks, ask informed questions, and challenge assumptions when appropriate.
What You'll Do
- Lead hardware/device programs from initial concept and design through EVT, DVT, PVT, manufacturing ramp, and mass production.
- Partner with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) on product roadmap planning.
- Manage program schedules, milestones, dependencies, engineering actions, risks, BOMs, build plans, and material planning.
- Drive end-to-end development across hardware, firmware, RF, mechanical, industrial design, client software, and cloud teams.
- Facilitate detailed technical discussions across engineering teams.
- Identify risks early and drive teams toward resolution.
- Challenge assumptions and escalate issues when necessary to protect program objectives.
- Manage overseas ODM partners and factory builds.
- Coordinate engineering samples, test plans, test reports, build readiness, and sample distribution.
- Manage regulatory certification activities supporting product launches.
- Participate in end-to-end system functional and performance testing.
- Track Alpha/Beta issues through resolution.
- Support sustaining engineering and post-launch activities.
- Lead design reviews and program meetings with internal engineering teams and overseas partners.
- Identify opportunities to improve development processes and overall program execution.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or another relevant technical discipline preferred.
- 5+ years of relevant hardware engineering, technical program management, device program management, or related experience.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex hardware/device programs.
- Experience taking physical products from early design through production.
- Experience with EVT, DVT, PVT, NPI, manufacturing ramp, and mass production strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of hardware design, PCB layouts, schematics, battery/power technologies, firmware integration, RF, mechanical systems, and product testing.
- Ability to participate credibly in detailed engineering discussions.
- Strong program-management capabilities across scheduling, risk management, dependencies, prioritization, and cross-functional execution.
- Experience working with ODMs, contract manufacturers, and overseas engineering/manufacturing partners strongly preferred.
- Consumer electronics, IoT, connected-device, or other high-volume hardware experience preferred.
- Familiarity with bug-tracking tools.
- Programming or scripting experience is a plus.
- Mandarin language skills are a plus but not required.
What Will Make You Successful
The ideal candidate combines technical credibility with strong program ownership and is comfortable working across engineering, manufacturing, product, and external partners.
Success in this role requires someone who is:
- Technically knowledgeable and comfortable engaging directly with engineers.
- Proactive in identifying and resolving risks.
- Comfortable challenging assumptions and pushing teams toward decisions.
- Self-motivated and able to operate with a high degree of ownership.
- Highly organized and capable of managing multiple technical dependencies.
- Effective at influencing teams without direct authority.
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment.
- An excellent written and verbal communicator.
- Comfortable working across cultures, locations, and time zones.
