Your Key Contributions:
- Promote Public Safety: Conduct inspections of registered power plants, boilers, pressure vessels, refrigeration plants, compressor plants, and related equipment to verify compliance with the Technical Standards and Safety Act, Operating Engineers Regulation, and applicable codes and standards.
- Support Regulatory Compliance: Exercise Provincial Offences Officer authorities to identify non-compliance, issue orders, and take appropriate action to address unsafe operating conditions and reduce public safety risks.
- Investigate Safety Incidents: Respond to incidents, equipment failures, and public complaints to determine compliance with regulatory requirements, identify root causes, and recommend actions to prevent re-occurrence.
- Assess Qualification and Operational Requirements: Audit registered facilities and operating personnel to verify that equipment, processes, and qualifications meet regulatory, safety, and operating requirements.
- Provide Regulatory Guidance: Communicate regulatory requirements and industry standards to facility owners, operators, and industry professionals, supporting compliance and promoting safe operating practices.
- Maintain Accurate Inspection Records: Prepare inspection reports, investigation documentation, compliance records, and supporting evidence within established service standards while maintaining accurate electronic records.
- Support Continuous Improvement: Contribute technical expertise, share best practices, participate in training and development activities, and identify opportunities to enhance service delivery, inspection processes, and public safety outcomes.
Your Qualifications & Key Strengths:
Certifications:
- Minimum Second-Class Operating Engineer Certificate.
- Eligibility to obtain the National Board In-service ("IS") Commission, where required, is considered an asset.
- Possess or be eligible to obtain the Ontario Certificate of Competency.
Technical Background:
- Bring a minimum of five years of progressive experience in the operation and maintenance of large and diverse thermal power systems, including at least three years of experience as a Second-Class Shift Engineer. Experience conducting inspections, audits, incident investigations, or compliance activities within industrial, power generation, or regulated environments is preferred.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of the Technical Standards and Safety Act, Operating Engineers Regulation, Boilers and Pressure Vessels Regulation, CSA B51, CSA B52, and other applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements relevant to registered power plants and pressure equipment.
- Apply experience using electronic inspection, records management, and customer relationship management systems to maintain accurate records, support regulatory activities, and ensure timely reporting. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and experience working within compliance-focused environments are required.
- Utilize strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills to assess operating conditions, investigate incidents, manage competing priorities, prepare clear technical documentation, and collaborate effectively with customers, operators, inspectors, engineers, and industry stakeholders.
Travel Requirements:
- Daily travel throughout the assigned region is required to conduct inspections, investigations, audits, and stakeholder meetings; therefore, a valid Ontario Class G driver's license is required.
