We’re hiring an Area Manager to lead five Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) across Canada. You’ll own safety, financial results, people leadership, and continuous improvement across the network, working directly with site teams and shaping broader operational and commercial strategy.
This is a hands-on, highly visible role. Expect 50-70% travel to our facilities.
What You’ll Do
- Oversee productivity, safety, and financial performance across five recycling facilities
- Lead regular P&L and COGS reviews to improve equipment utilization, labor efficiency, maintenance, and gross margin
- Build and manage operating-unit budgets and forecasts
- Visit sites regularly to assess operations, engage frontline teams, and drive improvements
- Coach and develop plant managers and site leaders; manage hiring, training, and performance
- Lead site safety reviews and ensure compliance with health and safety, transportation, and environmental regulations
- Work with commodity sales to meet mill specifications and maximize material value
- Partner with business development on RFPs and bids, and with engineering on capital planning
- Support growth initiatives and stay current on industry and regulatory developments
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Engineering, or a related field, or a high school diploma/GED with 4+ years of relevant experience
- Proven leadership experience managing teams across multiple sites or in a complex operating environment
- Strong understanding of operational and financial performance management (P&L, budgeting, COGS)
- Valid driver’s licence
- Willingness to travel extensively across Canada (50-70%)
Nice to Have
- 10+ years of experience in recycling, manufacturing, industrial processing, environmental services, or another asset-intensive environment
- Engineering or technical operations background
- Experience overseeing geographically dispersed facilities
- Track record of developing leaders and holding them accountable
- French-English bilingual (an asset, not required)
