TFI International HR Business Partners manage large, complex portfolios across Western Canada. Our divisions operate under federal and provincial jurisdictions and include unionized and non-unionized workplaces. This role requires a practical problem solver and critical thinker who can provide high-quality HR support, ensure legislative compliance, apply sound business acumen and align decisions with TFI International initiatives. As you grow in the role, there will be opportunities to focus on specific areas of strength and interest.
As part of the Western Canada Human Resources team, you will report to the Manager, Human Resources, Western Canada. This is a hybrid position requiring two to three days per week in the office. Our office is located at 234040 Wrangler Road in Rocky View County, Alberta, near Glenmore Trail and Stoney Trail.
Responsibilities
Employee Relations
- Partner with directors and manager to develop and implement HR strategies aligned with business and operational priorities, and ensuring alignment with TFI International initiatives.
- Coach leaders through performance management, attendance, discipline, compensation, and other complex employee related matters.
- Conduct full scale investigations, including violence and harassment in the workplace investigations.
Case Management
- Provide business focused WCB support and act as a liaison between the Company, Workers Compensation board, and third-party representatives.
- Manage and support other leaves of absence requests, including short-term disability, long-term disability, medical EI, unpaid leaves, and job protected leaves.
Labour Relations
- Interpret and administer collective agreements.
- Advise on discipline of unionized employees, participate in the grievance process.
- Conduct labour relations investigations with management and union representatives where appropriate as they relate to grievances and workplace complaints.
- Opportunity for growth in labour relations which may include building productive relationships with union representatives, preparing for collective bargaining, and participation in collective bargaining.
HR Programs and Compliance
- Participate in regional talent reviews, succession planning and retention issues.
- Participate and ensure compliance with employment equity reporting, pay equity projects, and internal reporting requirements.
- Interpret and apply applicable employment standards, human rights, occupational health and safety, labour relations, privacy and other employment legislation.
- Lead HR initiatives and process improvement projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field, or a combination of education and experience.
- 3-5 years of progressive HR experience is preferred; candidates with less experience may be considered where they demonstrate strong judgement, labour-relations exposure, and business acumen.
- CPHR designation or CPHR candidates preferred.
- Experience working with unionized workforces will be considered an asset.
