We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant II to join our Finance team on a six-month contract. Reporting to the VP, this role is responsible for supporting day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, general ledger activities, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
The ideal candidate will have strong accounting knowledge, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
How You Will Contribute
- Managing accounts receivable activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, customer collections, payment processing, and daily deposit reporting.
- Supporting accounts payable operations by processing vendor payments, wire transfers, e-transfers, government remittances, refund cheques, and month-end close activities.
- Processing bi-weekly payroll for approximately 100 employees through ADP, including payroll imports, commission payments, year-end adjustments, and T4 preparation.
- Preparing and posting payroll and accounting transactions to the general ledger while ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies.
- Performing account reconciliations, maintaining financial records, and assisting with month-end and year-end accounting processes.
- Monitoring and analyzing operating expenses, identifying variances, and allocating costs to the appropriate general ledger accounts.
- Assisting with financial reporting, audit requests, and information required by banks and other external stakeholders.
- Providing financial analysis and reporting support to management to assist with business decision-making.
- Serving as a backup resource for payment receipt processing and order entry functions as needed.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate financial data, efficient processes, and timely completion of accounting activities.
- Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance accounting, payroll, and reporting processes.
What You Will Bring and Skills That Excite Us
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- CPA designation in progress; completed CPA designation is considered an asset.
- 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience, including general ledger accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and financial reporting.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, account reconciliations, month-end close processes, and financial controls.
- Experience processing payroll and working with payroll systems such as ADP.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data analysis, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify discrepancies and recommend solutions.
- Excellent organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing business needs.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to build positive working relationships across departments.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Experience supporting audits, preparing financial reports, and responding to management inquiries is an asset.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and integrated accounting software is preferred.
