We are currently looking for a Health Information Management Professional DAD Coding Specialist to join our Health Information Management team to assign diagnosis and intervention codes to inpatient records and electronically abstract demographic and clinical information from patients’ health records. The position offers work from home flexibility with an on-site requirement for meetings/conferences.
Here’s What You’ll Get To Do
- Assign diagnosis and intervention codes to inpatient records (DAD) using ICD-10-CA/CCI.
- Electronically abstract demographic and clinical information from patients’ health records in accordance with CIHI’s (Canadian Institute for Health Information) Coding Standards and Abstracting Manuals and Principles and Hospital Policies/Procedures/Guidelines.
- Keep up to date with changes in coding practices, CIHI Standards/Guidelines/Principles regarding DAD data elements.
- Apply knowledge of CMG+/HIG grouping and assignment with RIW/HIG Weights in relation to the MOHLTC’s HSFR and HBAM.
- Participate in peer review audits both internally and externally.
- Engage physicians/peers in clinical documentation and data quality improvement initiatives.
- Attend Coding Quality Improvement Workshops, Seminars, and Teleconferences as it pertains to the job (CIHI, CHIMA etc.).
Here’s What You’ll Need
- Graduate of an approved Health Information Management program.
- Must be an active certified member of the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA)/ the Canadian College of Health Information Management (CCHIM).
- Minimum 2 years hospital experience in ICD-10-CA/CCI DAD Coding is required.
- In-depth knowledge of CIHI’s Canadian Coding Standards.
- Experience with Epic, MED2020 WinRecs Abstracting System, 3M Codefinder, Microsoft Applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams), and Citrix are preferred assets.
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication, teamwork and customer service skills, coupled with an attention to detail.
- Excellent ability to work independently with minimum supervision under tight deadlines with good attendance, and demonstrated self-learning initiative are essential.
