Tax & Estate Planner | Vancouver, BC | Confidential Search
Ready to trade compliance deadlines for conversations that actually move the needle?
I'm working with a 100+ year old, independently owned BC investment firm - a genuine institution in this market - to find their next Tax and Estate Planner. This is a rare seat on a small, high-performing Financial Planning team, and it's built for someone with real presence - the kind of person clients and advisors want in the room, not just on the file.
If you're a Tax Manager with cross-border experience who's ready to point that expertise inward - toward Canadian, domestic planning - and use it to build relationships and strategy with clients and Investment Advisors instead of grinding through filings, this is worth 15 minutes of your time.
Why This Role Is Worth a Look
- Move from compliance to advisory, full stop - you'll sit in the room with clients and advisors, building trust and driving conversations, not processing behind the scenes
- This role rewards personality as much as technical skill - if you're the kind of person who lights up a room, builds rapport instantly, and makes clients feel like they're in good hands, you'll thrive here
- A 35-hour work week. Genuinely.
- Backed by a century of independence and stability, with a culture people actually stay for - collaborative, low-ego, long-tenured, and full of people who genuinely enjoy working together
- Real mentorship and development, not just a title change
- Specialize in tax and estate strategy for high-net-worth clients - a niche that compounds your value for the rest of your career
What You'll Actually Do
- Partner directly with clients and Investment Advisors on tax, estate, and personal finance strategy - building the kind of trust that makes people want to bring you into the room
- Build and present sophisticated financial projections using industry-leading planning software
- Spot tax-minimization opportunities across personal, corporate, and trust income tax, registered/non-registered accounts, pensions, and government benefits - and explain them in plain English, with confidence and warmth
- Write tax and personal finance content that keeps clients ahead of the curve
- Contribute to internal seminars and external presentations - this is a role for someone who enjoys being visible and engaging a room, not hiding behind a screen
What You Bring
- CPA designation + 5 years post-designation tax experience, ideally with exposure beyond standard corporate compliance (private wealth, trusts, cross-border)
- CFP designation, or willingness to complete it within 2 years
- CPA In-Depth Tax Program - enrolled, in progress, or completed is a strong asset
- TEP and/or FEA designations are a bonus, not a requirement
- Sharp analytical instincts paired with genuine warmth - you build rapport easily, read a room, and make people feel comfortable and confident around you
- An outgoing, energetic presence - advisors and clients should be genuinely excited to have you at the table, not just satisfied with your work
- A collaborative, self-starting mindset - you'll thrive here if you'd rather be part of a great team than the smartest person in the room
