Position Overview
The Recovery Equipment Operator will work as part of a team to provide superior service and stakeholder satisfaction through responsibility for performing glycol recovery services and the safe and efficient operation of all other processing equipment while abiding by Inlands policies and procedures.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Promoting and adhering to our safety and respectful workplace culture and instilling this culture while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance with all employee-focused regulations and state and federal rules and regulations;
- Proactively foster a learning safety culture by modeling a safe work ethic and promoting the value of open reporting and shared safety responsibility. Follow all safety policies, standards, and procedures in order to achieve a safe and healthy work environment for all staff, customers, and visitors. Similarly support Inland’s environmental commitments by helping to limit our organization’s impact on the ecosystem;
- Comply with all Government Labour, Health and Safety laws, regulations and policies;
- Abide by Inland’s procedural handbooks, operational plans, and directives of management to ensure that all work is done according to specifications and/or regulations;
- To professionally operate and maintain the company’s Glycol Recovery Vehicles and other associated equipment within close proximity to aircraft, airfield personnel and equipment;
- To promptly and accurately complete all associated paperwork as required;
- To work cooperatively with all other staff involved in the completion of assigned duties and to maintain communications between other employees and shifts about current conditions of machines;
- To work cooperatively with airport authority and outside contractor(s) while representing yourself in the best image for the company;
- To perform daily vehicle, walk-around inspections utilizing appropriate checklists;
- To perform and record light maintenance tasks on Vehicles and Equipment, and immediately report any repair requirements;
- To follow the Equipment Fuelling SOP to ensure operational readiness during your shift;
- To routinely inspect de-icing surfaces while on shift, and promptly collect spent aircraft de-icing fluid (ADF) well before the risk of fluid escape;
- To be alert and aware of other apron traffic, and to only begin vacuuming when it can be done safely without interfering with aircraft movement. Aircraft always have the right of way;
- To be mindful of any fluid segregation requirements as directed by the Airside Supervisor;
- To empty the debris tank into Inland’s storage vessels well before the risk of overfill. The volume, location and concentration must always be recorded for every load. The debris tank must be emptied of solids on a regular basis, and fluids should never be stored in the debris tank overnight;
- Emulsify the de-icing surfaces as directed by the Airside Supervisor;
- Escort non-security badge holding personnel in accordance with airport written escorting procedures;
- Assist with Processing Operations and/or facility improvement when required;
- Maintain facility cleanliness and appearance including garbage removal, washroom cleaning and restocking and other general cleaning requirements;
- Promote the best interest of the company by fostering goodwill and support between IDS and its customers ensuring that Inland’s policy of superior service and satisfaction are met;
- Foster a team environment and create a “group culture”;
- Drive and maintain a high level of efficiency and productivity;
- To accomplish any other tasks that may, from time to time, be assigned by management.
Required Skills And Experience
- Morning shifts - 5.30 am-3.30 pm (10-hour shift) on a 4 on 4 off rotation
- Evening shifts - 3.00 pm-1.00 am (10-hour shift) on a 4 on 4 off rotation
- High school diploma or equivalent;
- Basic knowledge of aircraft and how they perform;
- Ability to work independently showing good judgement;
- Basic computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word and Excel);
- Ability to read, write, speak and communicate effectively;
- Ability to interpret documents including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals;
- Ability to safely operate a motorized vehicle in inclement weather;
- Ability to maintain a positive and good-natured attitude;
- Ability to remain calm and perform under pressure and within fixed time constraints.
Certifications/Licenses
- Valid driver’s license with driving record that meets company insurance standards;
- Valid Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC);
- Valid Airside Vehicle Operator’s Permit (AVOP);
- Class 3 Driver’s License considered an asset.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
- The Recovery Equipment Operator will regularly be exposed to moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and may be excessive at time. There will be times when they will be required to work outside of their normal work schedule, so that we may meet the needs of our customers and/or operational requirements.
Physical Demands
- It is expected that the candidate be physically fit and able to perform all operational requirements;
- Ability to lift, push, and pull objects up to 50 pounds occasionally and 20 pounds regularly;
- Must have the ability to climb 15-foot heights for work;
- Position involves standing or sitting for extended periods of time as well as bending, kneeling, lifting, climbing, using hands to control tools and feel objects, reaching with hands and arms;
- Ability to work in a confined space for extended periods of time;
- Work outdoors for long periods when necessary;
- Wearing of personal protective equipment when required and full mobility allowing for freedom of movement in high-risk environment;
- Must be able to speak clearly and hear efficiently;
- Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus;
- Drive company vehicle off airport property, to pickup spares parts and supplies as directed by management.
Position Type/Expected Hours Of Work
- Multiple employees fulfill the job requirements in a team environment. Positions may be full-time or part- time as determined by operational requirements. Some employees may be employed casually/ on-call. Due to the seasonal nature of our business, and the direct impact of weather on our operation, hours of work are to be flexible with additional hours possibly required during certain weather events. Employees can expect to have shifts in part or in whole scheduled in any or all of the two functions for this position as outlined above.

- No travel is anticipated in this position.
