The Maritime College is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Paralegal Program Instructor to join our team on a permanent, full-time basis and deliver instruction within our newly approved Paralegal Program.
This is an exciting opportunity for a legal professional who is passionate about education, mentorship, and workforce development. The successful candidate will provide engaging classroom instruction, support student success, and help prepare graduates for careers in legal offices, law firms, government agencies, and related organizations.
About the Role
The Paralegal Program Instructor is responsible for delivering course content, facilitating practical learning activities, evaluating student performance, and maintaining academic standards in accordance with Private Career College requirements and applicable provincial regulations.
As a permanent member of the College team, the Instructor will contribute to the ongoing development and success of the Paralegal Program while supporting students throughout their educational journey.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality instruction in assigned Paralegal Program courses.
- Prepare lesson plans, presentations, assignments, assessments, and other instructional materials.
- Facilitate classroom discussions, demonstrations, simulations, and practical learning activities.
- Evaluate student assignments, examinations, projects, and other assessments.
- Provide timely, constructive feedback and academic support to students.
- Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and academic records.
- Foster a positive, professional, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to students as they prepare for careers in the legal field.
- Participate in program development, curriculum enhancement, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with College administration and other instructors to support program delivery and student success.
- Ensure compliance with College policies, academic standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
Program-Specific Qualifications
Required:
- Diploma or Degree in Paralegal Studies, Law, Legal Administration, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of legal procedures, legal research, documentation, and legal office practices.
- Excellent communication, presentation, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and relevant legal software applications.
Preferred:
- Previous teaching, training, mentoring, or instructional experience.
- Experience working in law firms, government legal departments, tribunals, or related legal settings.
- Experience with adult education or instructional design.
- Membership in relevant legal or professional associations.
- Experience developing curriculum, assessments, or instructional materials.
Instructor Qualifications & Registration Requirements
To be eligible for instructor registration with the Nova Scotia Private Career Colleges Division, applicants must meet one or more of the following criteria:
- A Bachelor's degree in a related field and at least one (1) year of industry experience; or
- A college diploma or certificate in a related field and at least two (2) years of industry experience; or
- A Bachelor of Education degree or valid Nova Scotia teaching certificate and at least two (2) years of industry experience; or
- A minimum of five (5) years of directly related occupational experience; or
- Equivalent qualifications recognized for specialized or emerging occupations.
Additional Requirements
- Must be eligible for instructor registration under applicable Nova Scotia Private Career Colleges regulations.
- Applicants may be required to provide proof of education, certifications, professional designations, and industry experience.
- Instructors with less than one (1) year of teaching experience in a formal evaluative setting may be required to complete an approved Instructional Methods or Train-the-Trainer program within the provincially required timeframe.
- Additional program-specific qualifications, professional designations, or certifications may be required.

Compensation:
- $50,000 - $60,000 Annually (Depending on Experience)
