Overview
We are seeking a motivated and skilled Telecommunications Technician to join our growing team. This role involves installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and servicing a variety of business communication and networking systems to ensure reliable performance for our clients.
The ideal candidate will have experience with telecommunications systems, computer networking, structured cabling, low-voltage wiring, and basic electrical systems. Successful applicants must be able to work independently, communicate professionally with customers, and collaborate effectively with fellow team members. This position requires travel to customer sites throughout Alberta, with every day bringing new projects and environments
Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and troubleshoot business telephone systems, VoIP solutions, networking equipment, and related communication technologies.
- Install and terminate structured cabling, including Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, and fiber optic cabling.
- Install, configure, and troubleshoot network switches, routers, wireless access points, and firewall equipment.
- Install and service paging systems, intercoms, overhead speakers, conference room technology, and security-related communication equipment.
- Diagnose and resolve network, voice, and connectivity issues efficiently both onsite and remotely.
- Read and interpret floor plans, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Complete preventive maintenance and service inspections to ensure reliable system performance.
- Accurately document installations, service calls, and repairs, including clocking in and out of each job using the company's job management system.
- Provide excellent customer service while working directly with clients on-site.
- Maintain company tools, equipment, and vehicles in a clean and professional condition.
- Work safely while following company policies and applicable electrical and safety standards.
- Travel throughout Alberta to complete installations, service calls, and customer support.
- Complete service calls and installations while maintaining high-quality workmanship.
- Provide professional customer service and communicate effectively with clients.
- Accurately clock in and out of each job using the company's job tracking system.
- Participate in a rotating on-call schedule, working at least one weekend per month to provide after-hours support.
- Experience with Grandstream, Yealink, Fanvil, Avaya, or similar business communication systems is considered an asset.
Requirements
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence with a clean driver's abstract.
- Criminal Record Check.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable working on ladders and in ceilings.
- Willingness to travel throughout Alberta, with occasional overnight travel as required.
- Ability to participate in a rotating on-call schedule ( minimum one weekend per month).
