PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the guidance of the Director, Communications, the Content Writer will research, draft and edit engaging content for TRREB Members and the public, in both print and digital format.
The Content Writer will gather relevant and newsworthy content, to generate original and compelling copy for communications, marketing, and promotional materials, that will capture the attention of its intended audience.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES
- Write Member-facing content on TRREB newsworthy items and industry topics, product or service launches, events, executive messages, and other communications, including:
- emails/eblasts,
- e-newsletters,
- headline news
- pop-ups
- Member Alerts,
- articles,
- FAQs,
- video scripts,
- brochures,
- reports,
- debriefs,
- key messages and speeches,
- moderated Q&As.
- Write and/or review public-facing content such as:
- website copy,
- social media posts/content,
- government submissions, deputations and letters,
- blog posts,
- news releases,
- fact sheets,
- columns,
- podcast scripts and show notes.
- Research, fact-check, and analyze information prior to publication, as required.
- Produce well-researched content for publication both online and in print.
- Develop concise, consistent, and high value content on a timely basis.
- Proofread all member and public-facing content, including identifying and fixing typos, grammatical errors, punctuation issues as well as verifying dates and stats are correct.
- Ensure all content maintains a consistent tone, voice, style, and aligns with TRREB’s brand guidelines.
- Work closely with the Communications Team to execute communications plans and to advance communications objectives and goals.
- Provide support to the Communications, Public Relations, and Government Relations Department.
- Act as back up to the Communications Specialist.
- Develop a thorough understanding of TRREB, its products and services.
- Assist with TRREB special events, including on-site assistance at the event as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned from time to time.
HEALTH AND SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES
The incumbent will follow safe work procedures, knowing and complying with all health and safety regulations. Personal protection and safety equipment will be used if/when required. Any injury or illness, unsafe acts or unsafe conditions must be reported immediately to their Supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or marketing with a focus on news writing and digital communications
Experience:
3-5 years of experience as a content writer.
A deep understanding of what makes a good story.
Advanced writing and editing skills, with the ability to deliver high-quality content, with varied topics and formats, on varying platforms, for a range of audiences.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to turn complex ideas into easily understandable language.
A track record of writing for a variety of audiences and channels.
Advanced technical skills in MS Office.
Creative, collaborative, and detail oriented.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to balance multiple projects with tight timelines.
SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Working attendance may be required at Board functions and special events, which may be held outside of regular Board hours.
Occasional overtime and after-hours work, including evenings and weekends may be required.
This position may be exposed to confidential material and/or information. Every effort must be made to ensure that sensitive information and/or materials are properly stored and secured. Confidentiality and tact are essential.
A reliable vehicle and valid Ontario driver’s license are required for occasional travel within the GTA.
