This position requires the successful candidate to provide daily control of all water and wastewater treatment operations within our facility to ensure that residents have safe and clean water in accordance with Provincial and Municipal Legislation, policies, and standards. This role provides hands-on learning toward achieving provincial certification as an Operator. This role has the potential to lead into to a permanent position.
Skills & Qualifications:
· Completion of Grade 12 is required.
· A Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s License is required.
· Any Certification in the Manitoba Water and Wastewater facility program or 5th class Power Engineering would be considered an asset.
· Strong problem-solving skills, verbal and written communication skills to accurately complete daily reports and logs.
· Strong attention to detail, record-keeping ability, and commitment to regulatory compliance and safety regulations.
· Proficiency in computer skills, including MS Office Suite, and digital reporting tools.
· Strong mechanical aptitude and basic troubleshooting skills with the ability to learn technical processes and equipment operation.
· Ability to follow instructions, work safely, independently, and effectively in a team, including knowledge of WHMIS.
· Physically capable of performing manual labour, including lifting up to 50 lbs (23 kg), working in confined spaces, at heights, and in varying weather conditions.
· Availability to work rotational shifts, including weekends, evenings, and on-call duties.
· A satisfactory Criminal Record Check required.
Duties & Responsibilities:
· Maintains water treatment plant, sewage lagoon, water supply wells, lift stations and related equipment.
· Assist in the daily operation and monitoring of water treatment processes, including filtration, disinfection, chemical feed systems, pumping operations, and reservoir levels.
· Monitor and record readings from various control systems, instruments, gauges, and meters (e.g., flow rates, pressure, chemical feed rates) utilizing manual and computer record keeping systems.
· Conduct routine checks and inspections of the plant equipment, grounds, and facilities to ensure optimal and safe operation.
· Performs other related duties and attend training as assigned.
Wage Rate: $28.62
Hours of Work: Monday through Friday 7:00 AM to 3:15 PM (summer);
8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (winter)
