Trans Mountain is seeking a collaborative, motivated, and values driven individual to join our dynamic team as a Traffic Engineer (East), Pacific Link (Contract). The Traffic Engineer works closely with route planning, construction, logistics, permitting, stakeholder engagement, environmental, and regulatory teams throughout project development and execution.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring traffic management strategies that support the safe and efficient execution of pipeline construction activities. The role ensures compliance with municipal, provincial, and regulatory requirements while minimizing impacts to the public, stakeholders, Indigenous communities, emergency services, and road users.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure an adequate number of access roads are identified for the construction crews.
- Work closely with the Pipeline Project Manager and the Pipeline Construction Manager in the development of the required engineered level traffic-management plans, traffic-control plans, road crossings, lane closures and related transportation approvals across the assigned sections of pipeline construction.
- Conduct traffic impact assessments for construction activities.
- Assess traffic volumes, roadway capacities, and safety considerations along the project corridor.
- Design temporary traffic control plans for road crossings, detours, lane closures, flagging operations, access roads, staging and laydown areas, and others as business needs require.
- Evaluate impacts of workforce transportation programs and construction camp operations
- Obtain required road use permits and approvals.
- Coordinate with municipalities, provincial transportation agencies, Indigenous governments, emergency services, highway authorities, and other key stakeholders as required.
- Ensure compliance with provincial traffic regulations, road occupancy permit requirements, transportation engineering standards, and project-specific commitments and permit conditions throughout the duration of the project.
Qualifications and Professional Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility is considered an asset.
- Approximately 5 or more years of relevant experience in traffic management, traffic control, transportation safety, road construction or major infrastructure construction.
- Experience coordinating traffic activities across contractors, active worksites or multiple work fronts.
- Working knowledge of traffic-management plans, traffic-control plans, lane closures, road crossings, access requirements and transportation permit conditions.
Working Conditions
- Willingness and ability to travel as required.
- Must have a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
- May need to provide support outside of regular business hours and/or on the weekend.
