ćećəwət leləm "Helping House" provides wholistic, culturally integrated health & wellness services for Indigenous clients and families. Our interdisciplinary teams include community health programming; primary care services; home care services; peer support, harm reduction, and crisis response; integrative therapy; wholistic wellness; and Indigenous Elders, Healers, and Knowledge Keepers. Together, we strive to support Tsleil-Waututh Nation members and families through care that is trauma-informed, relationship-centered, and guided by the Nation’s teachings on balance and interconnectedness.
POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Home Support Supervisor (HSS), the Registered Care Aide (RCA) provides high quality, culturally-safe, person-centered care in the privacy of people’s homes, supporting the person’s safety, independence, well-being and quality of life. By providing relational care over time by way of both light housekeeping supports as well as personal care assistance, the RCA monitors for any medical or functional changes over time that may require reassessment by the clinical care team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
A Registered Care Aide by profession, the RCA is responsible for the following key functions:
Providing exemplary front-line home care services:
- Using a trauma-informed approach, promotes a culturally safe and therapeutic care environment in support of client safety, independence, and well-being
- Adhering strictly to the Home Support Service Plan as delegated by the RN & OT Care Coordinators, provides personal care supports by assisting clients with their ADLs & iADLs including dressing, grooming, and bathing, as well as with their mobility
- Monitors and reports on client’s home environment as needed to ensure client and staff safety and well-being
- Maintains a clean and healthy environment for the client by performing light housekeeping tasks such as cleaning, dusting, sweeping and vacuuming areas of the home used by the client
- Reports any changes in client’s condition to the RN & OT Care Coordinators to help ensure timely assessment and intervention
- Adheres to TWN policies and procedures
- Works closely and collaboratively with all team members to support a wrap-around approach to care, consulting with the HSS and RN/OT Care Coordinators as needed
Supporting Community Health & Wellness:
- Guided by the vision, goals, and strategic plan of Tsleil-Waututh Nation, supports population-wide initiatives to augment client, family, and community wellbeing
- Supports community preventative and proactive care and education initiatives and workshops that support health and wellness
- Contributes to community wellness programming, prevention initiatives, and outreach efforts that strengthen the community’s social determinants of health
Ensuring Continuous Education & Professional Development:
- Engages in ongoing learning opportunities to support continuing education and professional development
- Stays current and pursues continuous professional development
- Upholds best practice standards and is deeply committed to excellence, consistency, and continuous improvement in professional and ethical conduct
Performs other client care duties as assigned by the Home Support Supervisor

- Broad and comprehensive knowledge and expertise in the provision of home and community services

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Current practicing registration that is in good standing, as a Registered Care Aide with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry
- Successful completion of an HCA program from an approved and recognized Canadian post-secondary institution
- A minimum of one (1) year of related professional experience. Experience providing direct client care in a community setting is considered an asset.
- Valid BC Driver’s License – Class 5
- Reliable vehicle and current vehicle insurance
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Documentation of immunization and TB screening history
- Criminal Record Check (vulnerable sector)
- Able to lift up to 25 pounds
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Completion of Indigenous Cultural Safety and Humility training (e.g. San’yas)
- Experience working within or alongside First Nations communities or Indigenous-led health organizations
