Tunistrong Technologies Inc.

Tunistrong Technologies transforms an ecological liability into an industrial advantage. We produce high-performance nanocellulose, known as “Nature’s Rebar,” derived from invasive marine tunicates threatening Atlantic Canada's aquaculture.

Due to the unique, high-aspect ratio and exceptional crystallinity of tunicate cellulose nanocrystals, our nanomaterial delivers superior mechanical reinforcement, crack prevention, and rheology modification compared to conventional wood-derived nanocellulose and synthetic additives, requiring ultra-low loading levels for maximum performance.

Key Commercial Applications: • Paints & Coatings: Superior scratch resistance, durability, and barrier properties. • Concrete & Mortars: Crack mitigation, enhanced tensile/flexural strength, and 3D printing bond integrity. • Adhesives: Exceptional tackifying and viscosifying performance in waterborne & bio-based formulations.t

Tunistrong acts as a Tunicate cleaning service, removing existing Tunicates from the marine environment and utilizing it to produce Tunicate derived cellulose and Tunicate derived proteins. Our cellulose nanomaterials offer new unique options for customers formulating composite materials who need ingredients to add strength, reduce weight, or modify viscosity. All from a chemically pure and natural biologic source.

We are committed to the concept of ‘first do no harm’ and have worked with aquaculture industry stakeholders to develop a Tunicate collection strategy which works in concert with the standard practices of local mussel farmers.
