POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Manager, Financial Reporting is responsible for leading the Foundation's financial reporting, audit, compliance, and financial operations functions while providing strategic leadership across multiple finance processes and initiatives. The role ensures the integrity of financial information, effectiveness of financial controls, compliance with regulatory requirements, and timely reporting to management, committees, and the Board.
As a senior leader within the Finance team, the position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Finance team and all aspects of financial reporting. The role provides leadership to staff, develops and implements process improvements, supports organizational planning initiatives, and serves as a key advisor on accounting, reporting, compliance, and operational matters.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic and Operational Leadership
- Support the Director, Finance in developing and executing department priorities and operational plans.
- Lead finance transformation and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency, effectiveness, and scalability of financial processes through automation, system optimization, and process redesign.
- Establish and maintain financial reporting standards, policies, and procedures.
- Identify operational risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Manage budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, and financial analysis activities.
- Act as a key resource in evaluating new business initiatives, accounting treatments, and reporting requirements.
Financial Reporting and Compliance
- Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
- Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of financial information.
- Manage the month-end and year-end close process.
- Lead annual audit activities and coordinate all auditor requests.
- Oversee preparation and submission of regulatory filings, including the T3010 and other statutory reporting requirements.
- Coordinate financial reporting for affiliated entities and reporting to external stakeholders, as applicable.
- Support preparation of Board and Committee reporting packages, including Audit, Finance and Investment Committees.
- Maintain accounting policies and ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Provide technical accounting guidance and recommendations on emerging issues.
Financial Operations and Internal Controls
- Oversee general accounting activities, reconciliations, and financial review processes.
- Ensure effective internal controls are maintained and operating as intended.
- Review and approve accounting transactions and journal entries.
- Ensure financial processes appropriately safeguard Foundation assets.
- Support investment accounting, portfolio reporting, and related analyses.
- Develop and monitor key performance indicators for financial operations.
- Oversee the organization’s treasury function, including oversight of the corporate P-Card program, cash management, liquidity planning, and investment strategy.
People Leadership
- Provide leadership, coaching, mentorship, and performance management to direct reports.
- Establish clear performance expectations and accountability measures.
- Support staff development through training, mentorship, and succession planning.
- Promote a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, accountability, and service excellence.
- Serve as a senior resource and escalation point for complex financial and operational matters.
- Foster an environment where employees can do their best work while demonstrating the Foundation's values.
Stakeholder Relationship Management
- Build strong relationships with Foundation leadership, fundraisers, operational teams, and external partners.
- Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors and selected service providers.
- Work collaboratively with UHN stakeholders on financial reporting, compliance, and operational matters.
- Present financial information, analysis, and recommendations to leadership and staff, including at town halls and other meetings.
- Support organizational decision-making through financial analysis and reporting.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- University degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or related discipline.
- CPA designation required.
- Minimum 5-10 years of progressively responsible accounting and financial reporting experience.
- Minimum 3-5 years of people leadership experience.
- Experience leading external audits and regulatory filings.
- Strong analytical and financial modeling capabilities.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience with enterprise accounting systems.
- Experience in a healthcare, charitable, or not-for-profit environment preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

- May have some activity outside of the office to support meetings
- The Foundation has a hybrid work model. Staff will be required to be in office a minimum of 2 days per week and will be required to have a safe home office set up for the remainder of the working days (specifics to be planned with your manager).
