Responsibilities
As a Laboratory Technician in our Building Envelope testing lab you will performs a variety of test set-up, test construction, and conduct tests within areas of responsibility where knowledge of the underlying mechanical and structural engineering fundamentals is required. These may include tests and set-ups without published requirements, or those involving unique features that require the use of independent judgement. Execute test plan and evaluate test results based on test procedure or as directed by the supervisor or engineering team. Provide feedback regarding tests and data sheets. Ability to Examines test samples, read diagrams or blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, measuring instruments, and operational instructions.
- Evaluates test performance and reviews test and construction data with supervisor or engineering team.
- Ability to setup and operate test equipment, instrumentation, and other mechanical and structural set-ups. Builds and/or adapts setup and test equipment to new situations, based on data sheets and instructions from supervisor or engineering team. Help and direct other team member in test setups.
- Operates designated machines and special laboratory equipment. Performs routine
- maintenance of designated test equipment and laboratory area
- Assist in small and large test chamber construction such as wood structural members.
- Record observation or calculated data on appropriate UL forms and prepares data sheets, and other documentations.
- Receives instructions from and reports data to engineers and other laboratory personnel.
- Operates designated machines and special laboratory equipment. Performs routine maintenance of designated test equipment and laboratory area.
- Proficient in safely operating machinery such as forklift, scissor lift, telescopic boom and roto telehandler would be an asset.
- Proficient at using hand and power tools, basic welding skills would be an asset.
- Conduct lab consumable inventory and upkeep when necessary.
- Integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.
- Performs other duties as directed.
- Participate in client correspondence and project coordination.

Qualifications
- Graduation from a recognized two- or three-years technology course (mechanical, civil, building engineering or a related discipline). Direct relevant work experience would be definite asset.
- Must have a minimum of 2 years relevant work experience. Work experience in a laboratory setting would be an asset.
- Have an understanding of the concept and standards principals.
- Must have a strong mechanical and structural aptitude/background.
- Demonstrates a basic knowledge of common laboratory tests and equipment used within the building envelope industry.
- Must have the ability to work under high physical demand. Work individually or as a team, in a fast pace environment.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
- Proven ability to be innovative and creative
- Ability to incorporate automation into day-to-day testing
- Ability to resolve problems involving several variables in standardized situations where specific decision-making guidelines exist.
- Have professionalism and good manner with team members and or clients.
- Strong written and effective communication skills.
- Strong computer skills are a must.
- Must be able to lift heavy objects and work at heights.
- Demonstrated experience in the use of hand and power tools.

This is an Onsite position in our Toronto office.
What we offer:
- Total Rewards: We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. This is an Unionized hourly position starting at $34.86 per hour CAD. Depending on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, a higher level/rate may be considered. This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 5% of the base salary. This position also provides health benefits including dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings commensurate with the standard rewards offered in Canada. We also provide full-time employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), statutory holidays and 3 personal days and sick time off (80 hours).
