Primary Purpose
University Canada West is a business and technology focused, independent post-secondary institution. Our mission is to deliver programs that provide students with the applied and theoretical basis for success in the workplace and future academic endeavors. The Library reflects the focus of the University with a particular emphasis on resources relevant for contemporary business and technology. UCW librarians provide resources and services to students studying in person at both Vancouver campuses as well as online.
In this position, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing the daily operations of the library’s electronic resources and related systems to ensure continued user discovery and access. This role requires technical skills and electronic resources experiences to provide support for students, faculty, and staff around discovering, accessing and effectively using the full range of library information resources available.
This is a fixed term contract covering a leave. The role consists of 1-2 shifts a week between Monday-Friday, with occasional evening/weekend coverage as needed.
Specific Responsibilities
- Support the library’s digital resources and related library systems; including technical troubleshooting, discovery services, authentication system, integrated library system, and learning management system.
- Maintain accurate electronic resource records in the library services platorm.
- Administer and optimize discover systems, link resolvers, and related access tools.
- Cordinate and improve integrations between library services and third-party platorms.
- Enhance documentation, streamline workflows, and promote best practices for electronic resource management.
- Monitory service performance and implement enhancements to improve resource discerability, accessibility, and user expereince.
- In collaboration with the Manager and other librarians, this role will develop and assess information resources to address the teaching needs of the faculty and the learning needs of the students.
- Advise and collaborate with the team on projects to support ongoing library operations and other duties as required.
Position Requirements
Competencies:
- MLIS from an ALA accredited institution required, supplemented by courses in computer technology and/or statistics; academic library/higher education sector experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with EBSCO, Evergreen or other library management discovery and resource-sharing platforms. Technical expertise to effectively utilize, monitor, proactively preventing issues and troubleshoot systems used in the delivery and maintenance of systems.
- Knowledge of OpenAthens and electronic resource access management, including single sign-on.
- Experience with Learning Management Systems and web technologies (preferred)
- Ability to coordinate the selection, development, and evaluation of new system, to test systems, and to coordinate implementation processes.
- Outstanding oral/written communication and interpersonal skills.
