Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person work. Work primarily takes place at Enterprise Square.
The Coordinator, Events assists with the planning and implementation of a variety of events that help maintain and strengthen the relationship between the university and alumni, donors, community leaders, government leaders and others. The Coordinator works with colleagues in faculties, marketing and communications, development, senior administration, researchers and alumni speakers to deliver high-caliber events that advance institutional priorities and build strategic partnerships and relationships.
Responsibilities
- Assists with the execution of comprehensive management plans for a variety of events
- Stewards alumni, donors, university and community stakeholders through various activities and programs including major events, gift announcements, donor acknowledgements, lectures, webinars and events that advance the reputation and priorities of the University
- Coordinates details associated with event planning - developing concepts, budgets, invitations, catering, AV, entertainment, registration, communications, etc.
- On-site event management to proactively identify and resolve issues and offer a high-quality experience for guests
Qualifications
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in event planning, stakeholder engagement, alumni or donor relations.
- University degree preferred (preferably from the University of Alberta) with background in such areas as: events management, theatre management, social sciences, recreation, program planning, or education. A diploma in a related field will be considered.
- Experience at a post-secondary institution is an asset. Knowledge of PeopleSoft and Advance, which can be learned through specialized training once employed at the U of A.
- Valid driver’s license is required.
- Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills are essential and discretion and diplomacy are required.
- Proven ability to meet deadlines and skillfully manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to adapt and work effectively within a large organization and an academic culture. Excellent computer skills (Excel, Word, Google Suite).
- Requires good understanding of accounting principles and budget management.
