The Student Residences team at Spaces & Experiences (S&E) oversees and operates undergraduate and graduate student housing for more than 2,200 students on the St. George campus. Our residences include Chestnut Residence, Oak House, Graduate House, and Knox Residence. The Summer Accommodations portfolio is a significant, multi-property hospitality operation providing short-term stays at Chestnut Residence, Oak House, and Knox Residence between May and August each year. Operating under the “Stay at U of T” brand, the portfolio delivers more than 40,000 room nights each summer to a diverse range of market segments including group, business, and leisure travelers. In addition to generating significant ancillary revenue, the operation provides an important opportunity to showcase the University’s residences and deliver a high-quality guest experience to visitors from Canada and around the world.
Reporting to the Dean of Residence & Director of Student Life, the Manager, Summer Accommodations provides primary leadership for the portfolio and is responsible for the overall planning, business development, and operations of the summer accommodations business. The Manager stewards the “Stay at U of T” brand and contributes to the strategic direction of the portfolio, identifying opportunities to strengthen its market position, grow revenues, enhance the guest experience, and continuously improve the operation. The role is responsible for developing the annual operating budget, including revenue targets and related expenditures.
The Manager leads the Summer Accommodations team and coordinates the many operational partners required to deliver a successful guest stay, including front desk, housekeeping, building operations, food services, and other stakeholders. The role oversees sales and business development across key market segments, develops and manages contracts for groups and other short-term stays, and monitors occupancy, revenue, and operational performance. The Manager also plays a visible role in the guest experience, building relationships with key clients and responding to escalated guest concerns and service issues to ensure that the portfolio consistently delivers on the standards and reputation of the “Stay at U of T” brand.
The Manager must be available to consult on or attend emergencies outside of normal office hours.
Essential Qualifications:
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree in hospitality management, business administration, or other relevant discipline, or a similar combination of relevant education and experience. Graduate degree (i.e., MBA) considered an asset.
EXPERIENCE:
- Seven (7) or more years of progressive experience in hotel, hospitality, short-term accommodations, conference services, or a comparable guest-service environment, including experience in a management or supervisory capacity.
- Demonstrated experience overseeing a hospitality or accommodations operation, including responsibility for staffing, service delivery, operational planning, and financial performance.
- Experience developing, managing, and monitoring operating budgets, revenues, expenses, and financial controls, with the ability to use financial and operational data to support business decisions.
- Experience in sales and business development within the hospitality or accommodations sector, including managing market segments, developing client relationships, and negotiating and administering group contracts.
- Experience managing guest relations and resolving escalated complaints and service issues promptly, effectively, and with sound judgment.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating complex, cross-functional operations and multiple internal and external stakeholders to deliver a seamless, high-quality guest experience.
- Experience using Opera Cloud or other property management systems, channel management platforms, and related hospitality technology to support reservations, inventory, occupancy, revenue, and guest services.
- Experience in a university, college, or student residence environment would be considered an asset.

- Strong contract development and negotiation skills, with the ability to establish and manage agreements for group bookings and other short-term stays.
- Proactive and adaptable approach to identifying opportunities, responding to changing market conditions, and introducing new approaches to improve the competitiveness and effectiveness of the operation.
- Strong technology fluency and demonstrated ability to lead the effective use and configuration of hospitality technology to support business processes, optimize operational workflows, maintain data integrity, and enhance the guest experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with guests, clients, staff, senior leaders, and operational partners.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, seasonal environment, managing competing priorities, deadlines, and operational issues with sound judgment and composure.
- Strong financial management skills, including the ability to implement and maintain appropriate financial controls, monitor performance against budget, and support accurate revenue and expense reporting.
