SALARY RANGE: $85,002.00 - $96,593.00

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Director, Academic Labour Relations, the Academic Labour Relations Business Partner will provide proactive and client centric labour relation (LR) services. They will act as the primary liaison between the Academic Labour Relations team and the various members of the University of Windsor’s campus community, including faculty, staff, students, human resources, academic leadership, and the Windsor University Faculty Association (WUFA) and CUPE Local 4580.This role is a strategic business partner and subject matter expert in labour and employee relations for academic staff, ensuring seamless communication and timely resolution of complex labour issues.
This role supports collective bargaining, grievance resolution, the interpretation and administration of collective agreements while ensuring compliance with labour laws and institutional policies and the processing of faculty-related leaves and accommodations The Academic Labour Relations Business Partner fosters collaborative labour-management relations and maintains strong working relationships with union representatives and internal stakeholders to promote a stable positive labour environment. In addition to day-to-day support, they play a critical role in coordinating labour-related activities and processes, providing expert guidance on collective agreement interpretation, and acting as a delegate for the Director, Academic Labour Relations when required. The position supports high-stakes labour relations functions and influences the institution’s financial health, legal compliance, and operational continuity. They will use their specialized knowledge, strategic decision-making, and ability to mitigate labour risks to ensure contribution to the University's ability to attract and retain academic talent and maintain a positive labour environment.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will possess:
- Must have a postsecondary diploma or degree in a relevant field along with a minimum of three (3) years’ experience within human resources/administrative position
- Working knowledge of HR related directives, guidelines and employment legislation to provide assistance with HR issues (ie. Ontario Labour Relations Act, Employment Standards Act, and Human Rights Code).
- Proficiency with Windows-based software applications, especially MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint and advanced knowledge of Human Resource Information Systems
- Must be adept at problem-solving, including being able to identify issues and resolve in a timely manner
- Must possess strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to recognize, respect and work effectively with individuals and groups with diverse perspectives and backgrounds
- Ability to develop and maintain cooperative and productive working relationships and engage in workplace culture
- Must be able to communicate clearly, both written and orally
- Must be able to effectively read and interpret information, present numerical data in a resourceful manner, and skillfully gather and analyze information
- Ability to work well under pressure and to independently prioritize and plan work activities as to use time efficiently and within tight deadlines
- Must be organized, accurate, thorough, and able to monitor work for quality
- Must be dependable and able to follow instructions
- Ability to exercise tact, discretion, and to maintain strict confidentiality
- Ability to handle complex and sensitive cases with professionalism and empathy (i.e. Medical documentation)
- Ability to work independently, but also in a team environment using a collaborative approach
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Familiarity with the university or public sector would be an asset, along with knowledge of University policies and procedures.
- Undergraduate degree in Human Resources would be preferred
- CHRP/CHRL designation
