Role Description
Full-time, on-site Full-Stack Developer based in Markham, Ontario. We build and run healthcare software that handles patient data under PHIPA. We are a small team that works AI-first. Most of our code is produced with tools such as Claude Code, Codex & Cursor, reviewed by an engineer, and shipped through automated checks.
In this role, your value comes from how well you direct those tools and how reliably you judge their output, not from how much code you write by hand. That requires strong engineering foundations: a clear understanding of how requests, data, and permissions move through a system, and the discipline to verify what the tools produce before it reaches production. Fluency with AI tooling is essential, but it must rest on genuine technical understanding.
What You'll Do
- Own features end to end: scope the problem, build it with AI-assisted tools, test it, ship it, and support it in production.
- Build and maintain React/Next.js interfaces and the Node APIs and Postgres data layers behind them.
- Review AI-generated code critically. You are the last line of defence for correctness, security, and data handling.
- Write and maintain the instructions our coding agents work from (AGENTS.md, repo skills, guardrails, CI checks) so the tools produce consistent, compliant code.
- Build & develop AI agents for complex workflows.
- Add tests where they matter and keep CI green. We automate what can be automated.
- Debug production issues by reading logs, tracing data flow, and forming hypotheses, not by guessing.
- Work directly with clinical and operations staff to understand real workflows before building.
- Handle patient data correctly every time: least-privilege access, audit trails, no PHI in logs or prompts.
Must-Have Qualifications
- Strong fundamentals: HTTP, REST, relational data modelling, SQL, authentication and authorization, async JavaScript. Example: You can explain how a request flows from browser to database and back.
- Working experience with TypeScript, React or Next.js, and a Node backend.
- Daily, hands-on use of AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or similar) as a primary way of working. You can describe how you prompt, review, and verify their output.
- Integrate MCP’s, create custom tools, skills, hooks for AI agents.
- Ability to read and evaluate code you did not write, including spotting security and data-handling mistakes.
- Practical testing and debugging skills: you know what to test, how to reproduce a bug, and how to confirm a fix.
- Git and GitHub pull-request workflows. Comfortable with branches, reviews, and CI.
- Care and judgement around sensitive data. Prior healthcare experience is not required, but you must take compliance seriously and learn PHIPA fundamentals quickly.
Preferred Qualifications
- Docker, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, AWS.
- Experience with EMR systems, healthcare, or another regulated industry.
- Experience setting up or tuning AI agent workflows for a team (repo instructions, custom skills,
