The role
Under the supervision of the Director, Corporate Procurement, the Senior Advisor, Procurement is responsible for developing and implementing procurement strategies for assigned files and projects. This is a high-energy, fast-paced role that is essential to supporting Alto’s growing business requirements.
The Senior Advisor, Procurement works collaboratively with various stakeholders to mitigate risks, coordinate procurement activities across cross-functional teams, and apply procurement best practices. Working closely with the Legal team, they actively participate in the development, drafting, and review of procurement-related agreements and contractual documents.
This role is intended for experienced senior advisors and should not be confused with the role of Supply Chain Specialists.
The responsibilities
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, understand their needs, and recommend procurement best practices.
- Conduct market research and analysis, and assess market conditions, competition, and associated risks.
- Initiate assigned files through client kick-off meetings to ensure all stakeholders understand their roles and responsibilities within the procurement process.
- Develop procurement strategies and initiatives, identifying opportunities and potential risks.
- Prepare and issue RFx documents, ensuring requirements are clearly defined and aligned with business needs.
- Lead evaluation teams, ensuring roles and responsibilities are clearly understood and guiding the team toward consensus.
- Ensure the accuracy of contractual commitments reflected in purchase orders issued by the Finance Expertise Centre.
- Coordinate contract renewals and amendments, and support business units in the application and interpretation of contract provisions.
- Prepare briefing notes and reports for management as required.
The qualifications
- Fluency in English is required; proficiency in French is considered an asset.
- Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Finance, Legal Services, or an equivalent field.
- Minimum of eight (8) years of experience preparing, managing, and evaluating RFx processes and negotiating contracts.
- Experience within the past five (5) years in public procurement processes, preferably with Crown corporations.
- Proven experience with the end-to-end procurement lifecycle, including Requests for Proposals (RFPs), Requests for Supply Arrangements (RFSAs), sole-source procurements, development of evaluation criteria and weightings, evaluation processes, consensus meetings, contract awards, and contract amendments.
- Experience managing complex procurement initiatives involving high-value contracts, multiple stakeholders, detailed evaluation criteria, significant risk, extended timelines, evaluation committees, vendor demonstrations, contract negotiations, and executive approvals.
- Strong negotiation, stakeholder management, and conflict resolution skills.
- Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to develop RFx documentation and related procurement communications.
- Knowledge of national and international procurement laws, regulations, and trade agreements.
- Experience with SAP and MERX is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated initiative and autonomy, combined with strong organizational, planning, and leadership skills.
