POSITION
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Network Operations, the Manager is responsible for all day-to-day management of personnel and activities in the Operations Control Center (OCC). In addition, the Manager’s main role is to ensure that procedures are carried out effectively, that the work performed meets a high level of quality and, that all processes are documented rigorously.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain a high employee engagement under his responsibility in delivering daily coaching and recognition, training, setting weekly and yearly objectives, reviewing staffing and schedules, recruiting and all other Human Resources related aspects;
- Manages activities related to train operations including adherence to the operating plan and address exceptions such as delays, missed connections and service disruptions promptly minimizing adverse impact on stakeholders and Customers;
- Ensure compliance with and accuracy of the information entered into the various systems;
- Ensure documents included in the documentation center database (SharePoint) are pertinent, updated regularly and distributed to his respective teams;
- Manages activities related to emergency preparedness and business continuity, testing of emergency measures organization and maintenance and testing of critical systems.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
REQUIREMENTS
- Possess a College diploma in a related field or combination of equivalent training and pertinent experience;
- Possess (5) years of railway experience and management experience in similar business environment such as Transportation, Maintenance or Customer Experience.
COMPETENCIES
- Must be bilingual (English & French)
- Possess an excellent organizational and planning abilities;
- Capable of building harmonious relationships with internal and external partners;
- Is technically savvy and capable of quickly learning/using a wide variety of technology system. Proficient in learning new technologies and able to navigate complex computer systems;
- Able to adapt in a constantly changing environment and sound judgment resulting in quality decisions under time constraints;
- Qualification Standards for Operating Crews (QSOC) and Canadian Railway Operating Rules (CROR) qualified (an asset);
- Knowledge of Collective Agreements structure such as Teamsters Conference Rail Canada (TCRC) and Unifor On Board Personnel (an asset);
- Knowledge in system train operations and system geography (an asset);
- Knowledge of VIA’s internal resources/structure and where to obtain specific information (an asset).
